Please can I have a copy of the graphics for those unbelievably cool smiley things?

Hey Cybes, I'm putting together a semi-official researcher's smileys page, showing off user creations. Can I include yours? You'll be credited and get a link of course.
It looks from your page like you haven't been on for a couple of months.... I may just take the liberty of putting them on the page without asking... hope you don't mind!

But how would I set about putting them into my pages?

Write a page in GuideML. Find a smiley you like, and right click on it, select properties, and it will tell you its URL. e.g. http://www.ianferguson.co.uk/h2g2/smiley3.gif
In your page, find where you want the smiley, and use this code:

Does that make sense to you?

Currently you can't use them in forums, but if we just keep prodding...

I'm going to copy that info into Word and do up the smilies on the weekend.

you are quite correct in that i haven't been on here for quite some time.

in (belated) response to your query, of course you may use them. that's why i drew the things in the first place and it's not necessary to credit me for them - they only took about an hour to do the whole lot, which i was quite willing to do just for the sake of doing it.

Well I did that. And it doesn't actually show the smiley. It shows a little box with a red cross in it. See for yourself.

oh I think I see the problem... when I look at the source of your pictures, it says something strange like %20bigeyes.gif. You might have got the wrong character - it should be f_bigeyes.gif

btw: i hear there's been some 'discussion' about the use of gif encoding, recently. well, until such time as jpeg allows transparent backgounds, and compuserv serve me with a lawsuit, they're going to stay gif. feel free to convert them to jpeg yourself if you're concerned.

i did say "until jpeg can do transparent backgrounds"... well, jpeg still cant, but png can - so if you're worried about gif legality, the files are also available from the same place, under the same names, but with a '.png' extension intead of '.gif'
