Hi folks smiley - hug

Telford has had its fair share of high winds too, with one death in nearby Bridgnorth. A tree fell on a car and killed the occupant smiley - blue

Weve also had more than the norm in the floods that we get each year from the river Severn.
I was talking to a friend the other day and he said that the rain is just the snows that have warmed up as we dont seem to get the colder weather so much these days. he could be right.
luckily i live about 3 miles from the river and fairly higher up. but its done untold damages to the immediate vicinity.

and here ends the weather forecast smiley - laugh

the winds were terrible in cambridge yesterday. i was safely locked in a lab mst of the day but i did have to cycle there and back smiley - yikes

i had just settled in with a book yesterday evening when my neighbour knocked on the door. could she have her washing back! her washing line had snapped and the whole line, washing included ended up in my garden and the house next door. i gave her what i had in my garden and then she had to go next door and get it from there!

Welcome, good Lady. All are welcome here. smiley - smiley

Yes, I think it will be some time before the total count of deaths, injuries and damages is tallied. Nature IS a very harsh mistress. As you can imagine, our winters especially introduce us to many of her wicked ways.

Babette - Dinosaure

smiley - hug all.. winds .. There's been a few problems yes. two trees in the backyard gave in. both threatened to crash into the house so I had to take action. Bad luck there was nobody around to take pictures: this was the last chance ever to see a dinosaure with a chainsaw in a tree with 80 mph winds blowing smiley - whistle

Sho - employed again!

we got sent home early from work - all our Korean managers wondered what the fuss was, but the local advice was not to be outside or making unnecessary journies between 1pm and midnight. So our German manager sent us home.

I have a long drive and the last part made my arms ache with trying to keep my wee car in a straight line (it's flat here, and I live in the country, there are fields and fields and nothing to act as a windbreak). I deffo have to start using the weights at the gym instead of just running on the treadmill.

funny though, although the registered windspeeds are the same, here in Germany it's been called a Hurricane, while in the UK it is Gale Force Winds.

Every country likes to apply their own terms, relative to what they normally encounter I guess. I did see reports that clocked some winds in much bigger numbers in Germany than, say, England or the Netherlands. I'm just happy you had enough in you to keep a tiny car on the roads. Because I DO know what that kind of battle is like. smiley - smiley

really? Bigger numbers? the highest i heard here was 130kph - but that was around yesterday lunchtime.

To be honest, I'm glad I left w**k when I did. An hour later and I'd have had a real struggle. As I was going down the last bit of open road, a guy on a scooter was being blown all over the place. Probably I should have stopped and offered him a lift

There are times and places for common sense and self-preservation. Yourself out of your car could have proven far more dangerous. We have a number of "Good Samaritans" a year, struck by other cars or weather, while trying to help someone else.

And one news piece I saw counted on set of gusts up to 190 Kph somewhere in Germany. (The city or weather station eludes me ...) Babette talked of 80 mph in her zone. In all, a very hard day for a lot of people.

And belatedly, I see another piece of youth is gone.

First Mama Cass in '74. Then John in 2001. Now Denny, the Canuck. The "California Dreamin'" is left with just one. And those of us who remember. smiley - rose

I'll have a little musical memorial later.
It's a definite sign we're getting older - that whole "meeting up at funerals instead of weddings" thing

I remember my mum listening to them when I was a girl, and grew to love their music. I want Dream A Little Dream Of Me played at my funeral.

(but then, I am a bit of a hippy)

I remember hearing them on the radio when I was a lad. I think it was because of my geek-brother's eclectic taste in music of the day that I became aware of so many different sounds. Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot, ... pretty much anything that wasn't Mom and Dad's country music. Peter, Paul and Mary was another set of "feel good" music folks. Ah well, the years roll on, eh?

How's the arms and nerves today, Sho?

A Rev Nick Journal: A day of introspection ...

arms and nerves are fine, thanks for asking.

legs are aching a bit because I was running yesterday - but it's that smug, good ache I get after I run so I don't mind at all.

how are you?

My mum got me into all sorts of music, all those you mentioned were played plus the Stones, the Small faces and heaps and heaps of classical. Then came Bowie, Deep Purple, the Enid, Vangellis, Tomita and loads of other stuff.

Hopefully our love of music (when smiley - chef and I combined our record collections I had about 350 and he had over 500... 100 of which were the same) is being passed on to the Gruesomes who also like modern stuff (#1 in particular loves The Scissor Sisters)
