It's a good thing we're giving this some discussion, ... It gives me 5 more years to work out the details.
So to perhaps simpler stuff, ... How's life in your corner of the world?

In addendum to yesterdays 50 megatonne Sod's Law bomb, my boss is hiring from the shallow end of the gene pool again, I swear if the saturday girl had brains she'd be dangerous

She wasn't cooking thank god, she left a customer standing waiting while she did the washing up (You need to be able to do 2 things at once in this job). We do a take away service as well so if the nurses just want some chips or something to eat in their cabin's or in the TV room it save on us losing plates, most of the other Food Service assistents (PC name for canteen girls) will ask "To eat in or take away?" and then bring in either a box or a plate, not her, she'll leave you to go and ask the customer what they want. Last night I was sitting down for a couple of minutes and I thought I could hear beeping from somewhere, so I went to investigate, the door had popped on the steamer and the alarm was beeping, now she'd been in and out of the kitchen a couple of times while the thing was beeping, did she say "Coral I can hear beeping" or "The steamer's beeping" noooooooooooo she said bog all. Shallow end of the gene pool

I've heard a plenty of the stuff that my own has come home with. Some of the density, or simple -ness is astounding !!!

We were all aprentices at some point but at least we have common sense. I'm certain my boss only hires under 21's because she doesn't have to pay them full whack Minimum Wage and none of them stay around until they're 21 anyway, it's cheap labour for her but dealing with brain-dead idiots for us, you do get the odd one who surprise you, like the Friday Girl, Emma, she's good and I wish she'd do saturday

Indeed Sho, when chatting someone who deals with carving knives, ... waaaaaaay back !!!
I have a couple of lads that I work with, ... They were pushed through college level electronics, and granted the rank of Corporal. Normally, that rank includes atleast 4 to 5 years of actual military life and experience. These lads have "book-learning", but nearly no hands-on. Certainly no practical application with the equipment we have. And because they wear the rank, they are expected to also lead and supervise regular entry folks. It proves far worse than the old idea of "the blind leading the blind".

I was in one of those trades - but I re-traded from something else and had earned my stripes the hard way (girl in a man's world notwithstanding)
when we passed out of traiing one of the erks said to me "we're the same as you now" overheard by the Sergeant Major who said "listen sonny, you'll _never_ be the same as her - only in your dreams"
(although I do agree with the Seargent Major of course)

Of the last 4 or 5 that we have been given? One is a "girl" (perhaps 24 'ish) from Cape Breton. There, everyone is tough as nails by nature. A number of the lads come in with the attitude "How can I make your place better?" ... She came in with "I'm new, what should I know?"
She is being fought over by a couple of sergeants, because she IS good, adaptable, and a wicked sense of humour.
The lads are being shuffled by a pick of the short straw.

Trying being 21 and trying to get a job that all the 16 year olds go for too, because its the only sort of job which fits in ith studying
I wish I didnt have to be 21 or to have had a job before

Don't worry I will have a proper job when I finish in 18months, then I will be paying back my loan with interest and paying taxes.
I just wish I had money now!
It really annoys me that people dont want to hire experienced staff because they are 21 when they could get someone who is only 16
