Earwormed half to death

I've been driven half demented for about three weeks now by a piece I saw a piper playing. I think it might have been one of the ones O'Carolan composed, but I can't swear to that.

It has a kind of a lullaby feel to it, and I've got a feeling in the back of my memory that it is very similar to a lullaby I must have heard when I was a very young kid. It's also got echoes of something else, maybe classical or early romantic.

It's been popping up over and over in my head. I have the feeling if I could pinpoint what it is - or what the other pieces are that it is reminding me of - I could then shake it out of my head and bid it goodbye. smiley - laugh

It's becoming a bit of a mission.

The Patron Saint Of...?

I was thinking about the whole business of patron saints today. The patron saint of England, the patron saint of firefighters, the patron saint of writers, the patron saint of this, that, and the other. I have no great desire to be made a saint after I kick the bucket, but I just started thinking. If I had to be a patron saint, what would I pick?

After some time I decided I'd like to be a patron saint people are happy to see. A patron saint who would cheer people up a bit. Not a patron saint people only think of when their arse breaks out in boils, or the wheel falls off their bike. After some thought, I decided.

If I have to be a patron saint, I want to be...smiley - drumroll

Ah, glad I noticed that.

And noticed it just in time, too.

I was checking out trains, ready for leaving the house in the next half hour or so. Then it struck me that the thing I was going to is *next* Saturday. smiley - blushsmiley - flustered

At least I wouldn't have been late. smiley - laugh

Impulsive

I've been feeling oddly impulsive of late. An inconsequential, throwaway remark the other day turned into a forthcoming holiday on Rathlin Island. And then again today, an inconsequential chit-chat on Twitter turned into a holiday booked in Donegal.

I wish I'd the time and money to be *properly* impulsive, though. Maybe go to Austria for a week tomorrow, and then on for a couple of weeks in Havana, perhaps. smiley - bigeyes Or just fly in to Paris and take it from there, see where I end up.

Then again, who needs the fancy stuff. Rathlin has more puffins than Havana or Paris, after all! smiley - zen

Fortune

For all of life's ups and downs, I have the good fortune to have so many truly good, decent, genuine people in my life.
I've had the good luck that even at my poorest, starvation was never on the cards. Not through anything I did - just the time and place I happened to be born.

I've had the good fortune to make friends so caring and decent that I wish I was more like them, and I probably don't deserve them. smiley - zen
