h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi, Happy Nerd.

I just wrote a short story about an imaginary concert on public radio. I though you might enjoy it:

~~Modern Music: Cause for Alarm~~

"This is Fred Glibnoy for Gothatropolis Public Radio. The music you
have just heard was Oliver Strangepuppy's 'Trio for Piano, Violin,
and Fire Truck Siren,' performed by the Channel Trio. Melissa
Silvertongue, the violinst, is here with us to explain how this exciting and important work came into being. Melissa?"

"Thank you, Fred. Oliver got the idea for this piece while he was stuck in traffic waiting for fire engines to go by. He figured that a fire siren was the one musical instrument that no one could ignore, no matter what musical style they preferred. He brought his idea to us, as all of us in the Channel Trio have a talent for channelling the expertise of great musicians of the past. I channel Paganini, the great violinist. Our pianist channels Franz Liszt."

"And what about the fellow who operates the fire truck siren?"

"He channels the late Arthur Fiedler."

"Arthur Fiedler who conducted the Boston Pops orchestra?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because he was a big fan of fire trucks. He would follow the trucks to fires."

"How did Oliver manage to iron out the balance problems among the instruments in his piece?"

"He didn't. Some people could only hear the fire siren.But it's not as if they were stuck in traffic...."
