There are people who favor the 'high noon, northern exposure' sky-scape of the Pliny background, derived from Barlesque.

Though its not in the cards at the moment, with the volunteers overworked on higher priority maintenance issues, I'd personally favor something that allows one to choose one's own background.

For example, continuous scrolling from the Pliny 'high noon, northern exposure', to a 'magenta sunset, western exposure', through a 'midnight black, southern exposure', to a 'golden dawn, eastern exposure' and back again with user discretionary color controls to fine tune the appearance.

Something to think about.smiley - smiley

smiley - artist yes that is intriguing

i think they used to have problems even with running anigifs (animated gifs or emoticons) which of course only taxed the system when that page with those gifs was accessed by someone....

so my suggestion would be that the pictures would be on the user's computer
and so also, for those who want to 'scroll' thru different views of, say, a panorama
that that engine to make the effects also be on the user's computer...
actually, that engine already is on our computers
macs anyway
in the screensaver place
engines manipulate pictures in many ways

smiley - smiley its worth a thought
to use what we already have
and thusly not tax h2g2's system

as far as showing the world your skin...
i think we can wait on that for a while...
all i really care about is how it looks and works for me

I've always been most comfortable with Brunel, myself, system information in yellow on black, easily told from user information in black on white, easier on my eyes.

...or pink, or pale blue...

Firefox has a number of features allowing one to personalize Firefox.

Adapting them to another website is a different matter.
