Thanks Matt. Looks like you've added lots of links and a couple of footnotes. Very helpful. I'll have a look at my photos and see if any look good enough (I'm talking content rather than quality, here, although the quality won't be professional!)
Local paper today reported that the convcersion of Balifin House into a hotel has been put on hold. The article also gives quite a bit of detail about the house and the nature of the eventual hotel edvelopment. I'll check to see if it's available on-line.

I now realise that I should have mentioned the golf club under the "Sport and Leisure" heading. I don't seem to be able to get in to edit it any more though. Perhaps you can do the honours - or tell me how to get in myself. Here's a link to the club's website: http://www.portlaoisegolfclub.com/
I have found a couple of pictures I took in March this year. How do I go about posting them? On the Gardening Board we use Photobucket to store pics and post links on the board. Would that be the best way to show you my pics of Portlaoise?

you can send them to me by email if you like, then I can sub them for use on the Entry. I can then send them off to the Editors and they can choose one to put on the Entry
