Hi! My name is Kirsten and I'm hooked on the BBC!

I'm 38, and I live in Des Moines (just south of Seattle), Washington State, USA. I'm trained to be a secretary (personal assistant), but right now I've had to take a job as a call center representative - thanks to our wonderful "compassionate conservative" administration.

I've always loved British TV - thanks to our local public broadcasting station - Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Good Neighbors, Reggie Perrin, Are You Being Served?, et al. Then, I went away to school and discovered Doctor Who on the local PBS station there. (My fave is Tom Baker, but I think Patrick Troughton was pretty great, too!)

Nickelodeon introduced me to The Tomorrow People one year - I didn't care for the new one, though. Although not BBC, I also loved Gerry & Sylvia Anderson of Space: 1999, UFO, Thunderbirds, etc.

Now, within the last year, I have started listening to the BBC on the internet. At first, it was just the World Service - I sure wish we had something like the BBC in the States. Your news isn't full of "sound bites" and news items such as who won "Survivor" last night. (AAARGGH!)

Then I discovered Radio 4 and the Today Programme. Then, later, I discovered News Quiz, Punt and Dennis, and ISIHAC. No matter how many times American TV tries to transplant Brit TV, they never get it right. You'd never find programs like this in the States.

Plus, how often do people in the States use words like 'dodgy' in casual, everyday conversation? I just love it!
