I can see from your tagline you've seen the "Futurama" movie. We watched it again earlier this week to refresh my memory. How did you like it?

Bender was always a bit of an idiot. He cracks me up.

Yes! Loved it.

Loved the way they took the p**s out of all the other time-travel paradox sci-fi shows by taking it to extremes - Bender going back in time a few minutes so that his future self could watch while he went to the toilet - or Fry going back to when the pizza was still warm. Brilliant smiley - laugh

And I gather it's only the first of four! You've seen it twice now then, you must notice more stuff the second time round?

Yeah- only for some reason, I have a really hard time remembering specific things from movies (or books), I do tend to notice things during subsequent viewings that I hadn't noticed before... little things, sight gags or plays on words. Can't think of anything right offhand, though.

Going back in time for the warm pizza was probably my favorite bit. Or when the telescope fell on the scammer and solved the paradox issue. smiley - laugh And the disses against Fox for having cancelled the show.

Can't wait to see the other movies.

Yes, they were a bit vicious with Fox smiley - laugh.

You know, I immediately though about Dr Who. Not sure you get it over there, but the new series just started with a rather abysmal episode with a very simple plot that didn't really make much sense. Just very lazy writing really.

I accept that they don't have the same cost constraints as Dr Who, but this couldn't be more of a contrast. They kept continuity throughout the film and with all the previous episodes, they had a plot so intricate that you couldn't blink without missing 17 twists, and they even made an effort to get round the time-travel paradoxes that most shows just conventiently ignore. Amazing.

Did you see the '12 laughs a year Family Guy calendar' on the wall?

I did notice the "Family Guy" calendar on the wall. smiley - laugh My better half apparently likes the show- I personally don't, for whatever reason.

The efforts to work around the time travel paradoxes were great. I have to admit that I'm a bit green in regards to "serious" sci-fi, but I'm rapidly becoming a huge one, so that kind of attention to detail really impresses me. (I'm currently reading "The Physics of Star Trek" to learn more about physics and sci-fi TV/film- if you know of any other good sources for that kind of info, please share!)

I think that the newer Dr Who series runs on cable over here, but I don't have cable so I can't confirm that. I used to love the old series when I was a kid, and I have a few episodes on VHS, but I've never seen the new ones.

I read that book a while back, it was quite entertaining. I think it's pretty good at defining which bits are within the realms of possibility and which are just rubbish, IIRC.

Try this site - it's a bit dry but generally pretty good.

It does movie reviews too, from a physics perspective.
