Shea the Sarcastic

I've been very busy ... as usual ... at home and work, and haven't been around much lately. I thought I'd just hop on while I have a few minutes to post an update.

I went to the orthopedic doctor again today, and he said I'll need surgery on my wrist to cure the carpal tunnel syndrome. He said I should have it done when I've got some downtime, since I need about 2 weeks to recover before I jump back into work. That means I'll have to wait until after the war. Yet another reason to hope it ends soon! smiley - winkeye

We had a nice dump of springtime snow today. I wonder what we did to make Mother Nature so stubborn this year? smiley - brr

Back to work! smiley - run

We've missed you!! smiley - hug

There's no chance you could get some vacation time?

The thing is, if you were actually sick to the point of not being able to work for two weeks unexpectedly, they'd have to give you the time off - why not for this too?

I'd rather take the two weeks disability instead of wasting all my vacation and/or sick time on it. Since it's technically elective surgery, I figure I'd better wait until things slow down here.

I've missed you guys too. I shudder to think about the backlog I have to slog through! smiley - yikes

Oh yeah... I'm sure there are new Thingites who need to be added to the roster too.

Things have been fairly slow on 3n since we hit 43,000 though - and that's normally the worst of it.

I figure once we get TJ's snoring/apnea fixed, I'll be sleeping better, so I won't fall asleep into bed the moment I get home. Then I'll be able to post! smiley - smiley

I thought we reached an understanding over the weekend about generalisations

If they fix TJ's snoring Shea, do you think they could do anything for Dewey's miaowing? smiley - erm

Would you have me believe that you are the only male in the history of the universe who doesn't snore - ever??!?

I think we should be asking Mrs. Gosho about *that*...

Don't worry - I also snore... However it doesn't seem to bother the cats in the slightest! smiley - smiley

Well at least we know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel Shea. I'm sure they'll make the war go quicker now that they know they're holding you up. smiley - ok Gives 'em more motivation!

Long time no shee Shee. smiley - biggrin

You can't really describe it as elective surgery. It's not quite in the same class as a face lift, a nose job or a tummy tuck is it?
You're in pain, it's probably interfering with your ability to do your job and the longer you leave it the worse it will get.
They could call any surgery for chronic conditions elective, because you're always given the choice, but that doesn't mean it isn't necessary.
Unless it's actually going to harm your career go ahead and book the surgery and get your smiley - doctor to sign you off on the sick for as long as it takes to recover.
You'll feel so much better afterwards.

Good luck.

What's the difference between sick leave and disability? Is sick leave what we call "self certificated" and disability when the smiley - doctor gives you a certificate?

I belive disability is very reduced pay, although I didn't know that you have time limits on how much you could be sick within a year, heh thats thoughtfull.
