Just a quick update as such my friends

9th Aug' (2018) I had an operation on my prostrate gland and on the 29th Aug' I had the catheter removed "phew" - had one "inserted" since last xmas when the "troubles" first started and now the "fire hydrant" is working under it's own power
BUT! Mon' 17th Sept' a slight panic occurred!the flow rate dropped slightly and I was having hot/cold flushes ? this gave me a memory jerk as having a urine infection a while ago. So! on the Wed's I went to the doc's and was informed (after a test ) that there was no infection in my urine sample BUT! (again) the doc told me that it could be an infection of the prostrate gland, a possibility after an op' etc - so a 1 weeks course of antibiotics and that's seems to have curedthe situation.

ALAS! that's nothing! As to what happened today (mon' 1st Oct') Outside our local hospital, I met a friend and his sister, with my friend wearing dark red glasses me! Thinking that he's got an eye infection or something like ?
Oh hell no! he's now totally blind ARGH!! it all happened within 9 days from full sight to blind. He said it was due to his diabetes and "they" didn't catch it in time
This cleared up why I couldn't understand why he and his sister were holding a small link chain with a key-ring tag between them - Now I do, she was guiding him...
I didn't have words to say to them, apart from my support and wishing him well as such.

But this is another case, where I have to say - whatever health issues I've had in my life (so far) I still can't grumble, as I was brought up with the saying - there's always someone worse off than you...Unfortunately! That's so true....................

Diabetes is pretty awful. I don't know if I can forestall it forever, but I'm trying. My blood sugar is normal, most of the time, but sometimes it's slightly elevated.

Mostly I count calories when I'm choosing cookies to go with my afternoon coffee. My actual meals have relatively few carbs.

With all the additives etc nowadays that they put in foods it's going to be many many years, before the consequences to our health/dna is known and as usual that's too late for millions

Like my dear old dad used to say: Be glad with what you've got. Unless you've got the plague, of course

I keep losing more and more friends. Comes with age, they say. Mine and theirs.

Living with these realities is a challenge. But the alternative is still worse.

For now.

My Father stayed at his ideal weight for many decades. At 79, he lost his bladder to cancer, but coped fine without it. Who knew that he would have 19 years left, and still counting. My sister says that the house has been sold, which could finance a couple more years of nursing home care, should dad need it.

You get the first twenty years or so, thanks to nature's planning. The next twenty years or so are designed for creating the next generation, and then there are twenty years for whatever additional care your young might need. If you make it to three score and ten, you are truly fortunate. My father is way beyond that, and we don't know what that bodes for the rest of us.

Me, I use the good china every day, and I make mini-celebrations here and there, not knowing when the whole thing might unexpectedly end.

All this sounds very sensible, paulh. My late mom did the same and now that I've inherited her china it is my turn. In fact, I eat butter chicken (ancient Indian recipe) while I write this. And wash it down with good beer

For decades, nutrition police did their best to make us afraid of butter. This, despite the evidence of centenarians like George Burns and Phil Carret slathering butter on their toast and veggies.

Come to find out, you actually need some saturated fat if you want to have healthy levels of key hormones. You also need it in order to have healthy cell walls. My mother devoted her life to staying thin and removing fat from her diet whenever possible. The down side to this was her decrepitude in the last 12 years of her life. Yes, she lived to be 92, but the end was no picnic for her or for anyone else. Not that old age is fun for most of us, but if you're going to live that long, and you could find some way to be more robust, wouldn't you want to use it?

If your butter comes from grass-eating cows, chances are it will help you more than it hurts you.

We are so closely related to pigs we can use their organs to repair ourselves for Bob's sake. Like our hearts for instance. Even my Jewish friend has heart valves from a pig.

Why then should we be afraid of lard? (In reasonable amounts, of course.)

Why should oil from the inside of kernels from grapes be healthier? (It is not! It's a myth!) If it was healthier would not Mother Nature have made it easier for us to get access to it?

my mam's now 93 yrs and the "sheltered housing" she is in, has seen the "warden" got shut of only thing now is, if any "health problem/s" a intercom system - are you or'right etc ? (ok)

Today I've received a letter from the hospital where I had my prostrate op' done. It's says that tests done on the tissue removed during the op' is totally benign and shows no sign of any form of cancer.
This must be a routine action for any tissue removal ?

I think so, yeah. And that's great news!
