11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.............So what?

I admit it! I'm one of those people who buys a poppy every year. I don't just dig out last years poppy and get the wife to iron it, I buy a new one. I wear it. I have pride in it. Am I odd? You'd think so to see the apathy from some of the Students where I work. I asked them if they remembered the 11th of November - would they give a minutes remembrance. Answers included -
* Naaaaah, wots the f**kin' point, they're all dead now anyhow!
* Why, I never asked them to fight for us, mebbee itud be better under Hitler than Blair!
* What....Thursday......why......what's happening Thursday....?
And so on.......
This got me thinking, what would it be like if we HAD lost the last war, and Adolf Hitler had got his dream of Global Supremacy?
My friends wife may have been killed at birth, she is disabled.
My daughter may have been killed at birth, she is handicapped.
Saying that, I may not have been allowed to live, or possibly just sterilized. I have dark hair and eyes.
Would we have the standard of living we have now?
Would the Jewish race still exist at all?
Real food for thought.
As far as I'm concerned, we SHOULD remember. Many people went to war, a lot never returned. Those that did return were never quite the same, from the WWI veterans to the Gulf soldiers.
We should remember those who gave up their time and lives to ensure a better future.
We should also remember that War is never a solution.
We may have forced a surrender in the conflict, but while we have lost people's lives, we have never won!
So I'm going to give a minute of my time on Thursday. I'm going to lock my office door, and take a minute to remember my relatives, my Grandfather who was had his ship bombed. I'm proud of them.

I think I have sussed what the prob is with that 4400/160. CMOS battery I think, there is a wee button on the back of the motherboard which resets the Perameter RAM, (CMOS to the rest of us). Press this and the computer starts. Wild eh?

Ever had one of those really crappy days, that make you wish your particular sperm had got cramp on the last leg of the race? Today seems to be one of them. Peoplpe grumble about everything, mainly things they are too dopey to solve themselves. Anyway.....
The date is 7th October 1999, weather rainy. Winter is setting in with a vengeance. The only redeaming feature of the day, is that I have rescued an Apple 4400/160 from the grave. Don't ask how, I guess it will just be one of those inexplicable faults that cannot be explicked!
