Well the story spread and he was the saint of many different countries at many times.
Same way Jesus is the saviour of many western world countries but came from the middle east where they worship Allah (for example).

Ok well he was IN that area, he didn't slay any english dragons and it wasnt in the middle ages as is usually portrayed.
