Hi there, Graham.
I'm your friendly Sub-Editor for 'Seido Karate'. It's my task to run a quick check over your entry to see that it conforms to house style and to pick up on any typos or grammatical queries before it goes into the Edited Guide proper.
The version of your entry that I'm working on is at A2116685 and perhaps you'd like to check out what I've done to your brainchild. But remember - - anything that you don't agree with can be changed. As you will see, I have messed about with your version a bit, whether or not it's any better is a matter of opinion - and I would like to hear your opinion please.
One thing I would like to check with you is the last sentence of your article where you say 'After a student has trained for (usually) around two hours, then they are promoted' - is this correct? Is it really only two hours? Or is that perhaps the time from absolute beginner to the very first belt? Could you clarify please

A couple of things- On second thought I would like to remove the line "It is traditional for a student to learn a new kata after each promotion" because this may not be so for all dojos.
There is no red belt
You are correct. The length of the promotion definantly differs. What was I thinking. Oh well. Yes, the black belt promotion is around a day long.
Glad to help! If you need anything else just call
PS. Add a foot note adding that "karate" is in fact a conjunction of the words "kara" and "te." Te definantly means "hand" but there is a debate as to the contextual meaning of the word "Kara" When translated, many japanese words are spelled the same, for example "uchi" which could either mean, "strike" or "inside". "Kara" could either mean "empty" or "chinese". Seeing as the martial arts were first practiced in China, "Chinese fist" is feasable. "Empty fist" also makes sense for obvious reasons.

OK! I've altered the text, if you're happy with it, I'll send it back to the Editors for their final check.
