Just dropiing by to say hello, really. smiley - smiley I'm Vip, and I'm a student in Birmingham.

*taps foot, and looks around nervously*

I don't really have much more to say, really, though I hear you're up for the Brum meet up. smiley - smiley Another person to join to Birmingham h2g2 collective! Hurrah!

Hi Vip, thanks for dropping in smiley - smiley

I live just outside the city centre, close to where I work. I look forward to meeting folx, though how you recognise each other is an interesting conundrum smiley - erm

It's odd, that. We just seem to ba able to go somewhere, and just be able to spot h2g2 people. My first meet I took a chance on an odd assortment of people and hey! there they were. I've gone to pick people up from the station, and known who they were as I got through to doors. Maybe it's simply finding people who are looking for people. smiley - winkeye

One of the meetups a couple of years or so everybody had spring onions. *shakes head* I find that aiming for people in black helps. Especially those with h2g2 t-shirts. smiley - smiley I make it easy at big meets by wearing a pair of pink fluffy fairy wings. Or used to, at any rate. smiley - smiley

So, how goes? Long time no squeak!

I've moved to Leeds, got engaged and moved to Shrewsbury since we spoke last. How have things gone with you?

Hi there Vip, great to hear from you again smiley - smiley

Update? Moved from Birmingham to Aberdeen, started University and just finishing the second year of a four year course. Being at Uni and trying to study means I don't spend as much time on-line, and therefore don't write back to people as I should. smiley - sorry Summer's here so time I'd normally spend in lectures and labs I can now spend at home with H2G2 in one window and RGU in another, swapping between the two.

Congrats on the engagement smiley - bubbly, and love the idea of an engagement sword - far more stylish than a ring, don't you think?

The sword is indeed gorgeous, but gets a little less wear than the ring! We went and found some wedding bands on Monday, so that's one less thing on the planning-a-wedding list. Phew!

Ah yes, 'tis the summer holidays. I can tell. The sun is out! Hurrah! I can cycle to work!

What are you studying?

A fabulous sword is more practical, however, getting it out to show to friends could mean quite a bit of trouble, especially with the new knife possession law things being discussed at the moment.

The to-do list for weddings must be HUGE, can't imagine anything that complex especially when you're running to a deadline. Hope it goes well though. smiley - gift in advance but don't open it yet.

Sunny weather, smiley - huh nope, you lost me there. I live in NE Scotland and sunshine is a rarity here, I've found. Even when it is sunny, it's still quite cold. Half an hour cycling to Uni can be a chilly experience, but still fun if you can avoid the traffic. Trouble is, we broke up before it got warm so I stop needing to cycle before it's nice enough to. How far is work for you?

Studying Computing & Information. Lots of computer stuff, lots of data things - databases, spreadsheets, storage and networks. smiley - geek Sounds boring but great fun and loving it.

If I take the sword anywhere it must be double bagged (so the ceremonial silk bag has to be encased inside another bag). That way if there is a fight, I couldn't use it without wasting half a minute getting it out of the bags.

The wedding hasn't been too bad so far. It helps that neither of us are that picky so long as it happens, so we can go with the flow a bit.

Work is about two miles away. Apart from the bit inside the town, it's a nice easy ride. I just need to try and find a route that avoids the huge tailbacks and traffic lights! Here they seem to put cycle paths everywhere where it would be safe to ride on the road, but as soon as the road narrows they get rid of the cycle path. smiley - grr

Glad you're enjoying your degree. I didn't enjoy mine, and I did music! smiley - musicalnote

Blazing sunshine today. Yay!

Right, I'd better get going- I have a lot of stuff to do. Having just come back from a weekend away I need to get all the washing through and all that sort of stuff done. Not so yay!

We have the same thing with tools. We sometimes take maul grips with us if we go away from home for any length of time, so that we can do necessary wheelchair repairs. Checking in at the airport, discussing with the staff that, yes, this chair is safe to travel, no, we don't need to detach/fasten/fold bits, oh and by the way, we're carrying a great big metal tool so we can fix problems if necessary. It could do some significant damage and it's going in the hold, but we still tell them at the outset, rather than them jump on us later for "not declaring a dangerous weapon" or something.

Aberdeen is good for cycle paths or bus lanes if necessary. smiley - bus I only need to use main roads so have cycle paths all the way. My biggest thing is traffic lights, especialy when much of the traffic in the city is commercial or related to the oil industry - BIG trucks. It's about half an hour to the outskirts campus site, so that's not so bad. It's tiring but still great fun and makes me feel good about what I'm doing.

I'm waiting for the pass list to be posted at Uni. It was supposed to be out last Friday, then it's been put back to today, went in this morning and still nothing yet.

Great weather here too. Good day for walking around town doing a bit of shopping while waiting for results, short sleeved top, soft shoes rather than trainers, so really good for Aberdeen. smiley - cool
