Market Trading in the UK

Okay, I’m (We’re) fairly new to this game but I’m learning the do’s and don’ts really quickly. I guess it’s all down to what you sell in the long run. The Pound (£) trade items sell and it’s a shame that we don’t do those- But, then again- I’d have very little compassion (or motivation) for selling anything that feels pointless. An example, for instance of a day in Morton on Marsh – It’s lovely and slap bang in the middle of the Cotswolds- Load’s of day tripping members of the retirement community- But, get this- We sell funky, bright home furnishings; throws, cool cushions covers, tie-backs and oddments to make your home a place that’s bright and liveable at absolute bargain prices and we didn’t even break even! – What a strange day that was (!) What sold was cheap Birthday cards and Christmas cards, rolls of plasters (unwrapped I may add) and piles and piles of cheap kids and teen fashion. Quality and taste are suddenly out done by cheap fashion trends and bulk buying by Pound shops and Super Markets - People are people and we personally make an effort to change that. In our travels we’ve bumped into loads and loads of traders: some that have a family tradition of doing the markets for hundreds of years; Grocers, Farmers, Crafters and Bakers and they’re struggling – So, if your thinking of heading anywhere to find a good mixture of all the good things that a good English Market should have to offer: Head for Ludlow and cross check the guide for other features of this really beautiful English town..
