"Bl***y whinging Poms" as my Aussie friends would say
Sorry, haven't got a clue about scanners, so I can't offer advise on which to get.
At least that makes some use of all the junk mail
Were you successful yet?
Thanks and such!
Tube - the being being back for the time being Posted Feb 14, 2002
I have just come across one or two of the latest (valentine) blobs... That's why you needed the scanner then?!
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 14, 2002
'Come across'??!!!
Sneaking a preview eh?!!
Actually... the brand new scanner is sitting on the floor behind me. It arrived earlier, but I haven't had time to unpack it yet, let alone stick the correct cable in the correct hole and install the software... that will be my priority tomorrow and then I can get scanning like mad
Did you see that you are one of the stars of Wowbaggers cartoon?

Not what you think.... I must admit that I spotted the poor wording when I pressed the Post Message button
Not so much seaking a preview, but I posted something at Poet's space and saw the photo there. And I just had to find out how one could have photos of themselves blobbed. After fiddling about with the B####### I faound Fräulain Gräfenberg's Valentine greeting and it all made sense.
How about scanning a really full Autographs page of a paper-Post?
< to check on the cartoon> where do I find the URL when there's no link on the frontpage... hmmm, hmmm ...recent guide entries, ah, there we go! will that help my on-site credibility?!
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 16, 2002
It is quite tricky finding the current edition of The Post before it has officially 'clicked over'
I stopped that happening quite so regularly by
a) burying all the up-coming editions in the backlog
b) setting my dealine later and later so that there is nothing there even when you Do find it!
I have ploughed through the printed edition of the scanner manual (about the same size as LotR), but still have the online version to check out. With luck I'll have the pictures up this weekend!
If I knew someone with a full page of signatures it would be great to get it scanned indeed! I only have one with the staff sigs (courtesy of Pastey)... I was too busy signing everyone elses to actually get any sigs on my own copy!

Thanks and such!

That's a sensible thing to do. The paper is to be read when it's officially published not before that. Though it would be a lot for work in an environment like this where everything is accessible...
What, RTFM?! What is the word coming to?! I thought these things were plug-n-pray, fire-n-forget and WYSIWYG by now. And the software always claims to be understandable by intuition.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the pics!
Well, I *do* have a page full of signatures (Gawd only know who from, heaps anyway) .... and I might even know someone who could scan the thing. Would you like me to try and get a version to you by say, Wednesday? If so, just tell me the quality/size you'd like. Or I could ask for different versions (say 50 kB and 500 kB jpg)...
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 16, 2002
Sounds good
Keep it to A4 size... 50-100 KB should be fine... much bigger and it will take too long to load!
Wednesday am would be the latest to arrive here as Abi does the blobbing and finishes early on a Wednesday!
If you convert it to OCR as well, I can add comments if neccesary... send both versions through
Right... off to persuade this scanner to do what *I* want it to, rather than what *It* thinks it wants to do!
Hmmm... I need to think of another subject for you to write for TP now, after the success of your last sribblings
Any ideas?
shazz
Thanks and such!

Uhhhhh... I've just been talking to Mel, who's responsible for the scanning. She reckons that we're lucky when she can get by with a mere 1000 kB (but maybe that's because she's a graphics designer by profession and not easily satisfied... ). Anyway, I'll mail you the big version and the buffs at h2g2 can go and work it out, eh? One can always down-size the thing.
Too long to load?
Mel reckons she can do the scanning on Sunday so that should get the pic to you in time. She wasn't sure about the OCR version though... we'll see...
Any ideas? I might be able to think of some.
But not this week as I have to hand in a first version of my thesis next week and currently I'm doing 10-12 hour shifts on that.
I could tell you why the German legislators f****d up when implementing the "EC Directive 2000/31/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2000 on certain legal aspects of information society services, in particular electronic commerce, in the Internal Market" and why the English ones didn't do much better with their Electronic Communications Act 2000.
Sounds interesting?
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 16, 2002
That has certainly been a main topic of conversation on Dutch Tv recently!
Go for whatever suits best on the autographs then... I cna always play about with it if it arrives at the beginning of the week.
You should have received a link to my pics now!
shazz
Thanks and such!

Maybe you should get yourself cable TV so that you can watch someething mildly interesting!
I'll just see what's coming my way and send that to you.
Yeah, and thanks! I got the link and I wondered who the heck is S***** C*****?! (the names have been changed to protect the innocent )
Taking a look at the pics told me That photo with the bat wings is especially ! And I enjoyed the Meet-up ones.
How's Towel Master these days?
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 17, 2002
Still limping and issuing forth the occasional groan, but basically on the mend!
You're right about the stupid Fotango using S***** C*****... I have no idea why it sent out under that name...
*'s to change settings*
The masked ball was great fun, but we probably waited until we were too dr**k to take decent pictures. If I remember rightly we'd w**ked Thursday (10 Forward) and Friday (Gangsters and Molls) night, so were suffering from cumulative alcohol consumption and extremely late nights/early mornings.

Good to hear that it's getting better
Ah well... free to use sites. I manged to get into h2g2 TransVol Yahboo-group, by signing in repeatedly. That group was supposed to be closed in such a fshion that it wouldn't even show up when searched for in yahoo. Peta kicked me out politely ...
don't tell me about late nights. W**ked on my thesis till 6 am. But I've missed out on the booze!
I'd better get going again...

PS: How about a piece for TP on the Arbiter Scheme A694118?
Thanks and such!
shazzPRME Posted Feb 17, 2002
Good idea
You write it... I'll run it!
ps... I must be doing something wrong! TM is out on the piss with his gammy leg and I'm at home!
shazz
Thanks and such!
Tube - the being being back for the time being Posted Feb 18, 2002
Don't feel too bad about it. I'm here also...
I shall get back to you with that piece on the Scheme. Just gimme a week or two (plus ... -> )
Thanks and such!
Tube - the being being back for the time being Posted Feb 18, 2002
Just to present the twisted wanderings of my mind:
"You write it... I'll run it!" -> It's my show, I run it -> Who's f**king this cat?
.... too much Australian slang for my own good
Thanks and such!

Seems that the foot is alright, the footprints look very identical
Shazz, I'm not sure I can deliver the pic in time. Haven't seen Mel the last couple of days, she has the paper Post and thus she should be able to get the show on the road (i.e. data-highway), but maybe it'll have to wait till the next issue. I'll check up on her tonight, though.
Key: Complain about this post
Thanks and such!
