The Government and thier Infinite Wisdom

The Government have come up with another gem of an idea. as usual it's another good way of taxing the people who can least afford it.

As from the Autumn of 2000 the Road Tax will be charged according to the exhaust emissions.

The Higher the emissions the higher the road tax. Therefore the people who are lucky enough to be able to afford a new car or one that's only a couple of years old will pay less road tax.

The older cars with higher emissions will be taxed at a higher rate, unless of course it’s a vintage car cause these are exempt from Road Tax.

One consolation is the way things are going my car will soon be vintage.

If I can get a job working from home maybe I won't need a car. The only problem I can foresee than is towing the supermarket trolley home behind my bike , especially if you get one of those dodgy ones that likes to go sideways

Free Time Online

I don't mean for my journal entry to sound like an advertisment for a phone company.
I just want to let all you h2g2 members (the ones who live in UK) who haven't herd, you can connect to the internet for free now if you change your phone account to Localtel.

The line rental is the same as BT's but calls are 10% cheaper plus you can connect to the net for free from 6.pm till 8.am Mon-thurs and 6.pm fri till 8.am monday.

Its still the same telephone line and you still have the friends and family No.s & the same services IE: call waiting. Diversion, Call minder etc...etc.

So just go to your nearest Tempo store and pick up the free cd rom,
or take a look at http://www.localtel.co.uk/ and you find out all you need to know.

The only drawback is it takes a few times to connect to your new ISP in the evening and there is a 2 hour timeout but all you have to do is connect again, you can still connect to your existing ISP and pay for the call as usual if you need to.

If you're an insomniac like me you will connect first time after 12.pm. I great being able to browse the web and send your emai knowing it's not costing you a penny.
