The Abominable Martin
My real name is Martin Shaw ([email protected]).
I dunno, the person who thought it was a good idea to remove personal images should be sent to Channel 5 in disgrace :-p. Here is the picture of me that was displayed here before.
My working life revolves around breaking things, especially software. Technically speaking I am a test and integration engineer, in practice I have done most things in the software delivery cycle from the design through to delivery to customer site (the foreign ones are the most fun).
The rest of my life currently seems to revolve around many things, currently involving this house I have just purchased. I have a 5 year plan to redecorate it from top to bottom. Then there is the garden. Outside this rather time consuming activity, I have an interest in computers, especially the Amiga platform, but also Linux and to a much lesser extent Windows 95, NT VAX VMS and RMX III (the last three mainly due to my job). My family and friends seem to take up much of the rest of the time, though I have been known to enjoy the 'odd' boating holiday, as you can see by the attached picture of me.
I also seem to have aquired a reputation for making drinks that deserve the name 'punch' in any colour desired (to match the furniture for example)
"Martin is a good officer, who often makes a good impression ashore" is how I am described by the last crew I captained on the Scottish lochs. Lets just say thet Loch Lochy is a bit wider than it used to be ;-)
Other useful information. I live in Christchurch, Dorset, UK though I spent most of my life in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK and some years in the general vicinity of London. Oh, and 1 very interesting month in Cairo, Egypt.
Useful tip #22384 - When visiting Disney EPCOT, you will notice the queue for test track is often a 2 hour queue or longer (and I went off season). Keep an eye open for a Disney cast member at about the 2 hour queue point, he will ask for any singles. If you don't mind your group being split up, heed this mans words and cut 1.5 hours of your queueing time (assuming the ride hasn't broken down).
