26.9.2018 – The Show Must Go On

What do the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, the radio cast of 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and Bluebottle have in common? They've all performed at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre (previously The Empire Theatre and Gaumont Theatre), the 3rd largest theatre in the UK. Well, I'll be performing tonight as part of a show to celebrate the re-opening of the Mayflower Theatre following refurbishment.
The last time I was in the Mayflower was summer 2012, when Peregrin, who worked there, and I saw 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show Live!' there, the last time I saw him before his sudden death a few weeks later. So it will be mixed emotions. We're only there to perform two short songs and then provide backing vocals for the very last song in a 'let's see how many people we can fit on the stage for the finale' way.
The star of the show is Joe McElderberry, who is famous for being the worst ever X-Factor winner, the one who was so unbelievably bad everyone decided to go out of their way to buy Rage Against the Machines' 'Killing in The Name' in protest instead.

5.7.2018 – Hair Today

As my hair was getting annoyingly long and always in my eyes, on Saturday I went to the barbers. In fact I decided I'd have not just any haircut, but I'd break from tradition and have the most daring, radical haircut I've had this century, the result of which is that my hair is now the shortest it has been for at least 20 years – definitely since before I started growing the pony tail in 1998.

No-one I know has noticed I've had a haircut. I think I just have unobservable hair.

I went to a guest lecture held by Paul Sinton-Hewitt CBE, the founder of parkrun. We enjoyed a nice chat after too.

20.5.2018 - Towel and Sack

This week's Sunday activity was running the Netley 10K, a 3-lap 10K road race that unlike other smiley - run awards finishers not with a medal or technical T-shirt but with a smiley - towel, so that's this year's Towel Day prepared for.

Afterwards our running club had its annual Whitsun family picnic and Sports Day. I won the Sack Race, was the only bloke to qualify for the final of the Skipping, coming 2nd or 3rd (very close finish) and was absolutely lousy at the smiley - chick and smiley - spork.
