I inadvertently bought a couple of CDs from the charity shop last week, so on Thursday went out-of-alphabet to hear 'Definitive Simon & Garfunkle, The' and 'Back to the Light', which may be by someone Sasha's heard of.

Today I am back on track, hearing:
smiley - musicalnote'Live at Carnegie Chapter Hall, New York City 1961' – Bob Dylan
smiley - musicalnote'Live at Last' – The Beatles (An unauthorised 'ooh look, copyright's expired on these recordings so we're allowed to release this' album)
smiley - musicalnote'Live at the BBC' – The Beatles
smiley - musicalnote'Live at the Hollywood Bowl' – The Beatles (An official 'we'd better release this or copyright'll expire' album)

smiley - musicalnote'Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970' – The Who
smiley - musicalnote'Live at Wembley' – Meat Loaf

Sadly I don't yet own:
Both Sides Now: Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 - Joni Mitchell
Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 - Leonard Cohen
Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Nothing Is Easy: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 - Jethro Tull
What's Going on: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 – Taste

But it goes without saying that I will never, ever, under any circumstances whatsoever own an album of Kris Kristofferson Live at the Isle of Wight Festival…

Lost: Liverpool or London?

Today I am mostly hearing:
smiley - musicalnote'Liverpool Oratorio' – Paul McCartney
smiley - musicalnote'Liverpool Sound Collage' – Paul McCartney
smiley - musicalnote'London Town' - Wings
smiley - musicalnote'Lost Beatles Studio Sessions' – The Beatles
smiley - musicalnote'Lost Decca Tapes' – The Beatles

Again, another day with a common theme, with two albums of Beatles material on which copyright has expired that weren't actually 'lost', merely unreleased. I mean, the recordings stolen during the 'Band on the Run' sessions count as 'lost', tapes that were carefully kept and had the best tracks released on 'Anthology 1' don't really count as 'lost'. But it has to be said that if you compare the Beatles' Decca audition to later versions of the same songs, either on 'Please Please Me' or 'Live at the BBC', there's no doubt that it isn't as polished.

Excellent theme for the day smiley - ok I've heard the Liverpool Oratorio, but forgot about it because it wasn't in my handy list...

Fascinating about the concept of 'Lost' indeed... Reminds me in a different way about the Dave Gorman Modern Life is Goodish episode featuring the 'Lost Dr Who interviews', except those interviews were lost because they weren't on the DVD smiley - laugh

More M&Ms...

I don't have an album titled 'Mickey Mouse Album' but we do have 'Now That's What I Call Disney', 'Pure Disney' and 'Walt Disney World Resort Soundtrack' (yes, even theme parks have soundtrack albums). These all have Mickey Mouse on the front and contain all the tracks that I think you were referring to (consider them Mickey Mouse greatest hits albums) so I'll give you three points for this.

smiley - laugh Yes, 'Mickey Mouse Album' could be interpreted in more ways than one, but I guessed there would be some Disney-related albums somewhere and I noticed they weren't listed under D...

Thank you for those points smiley - biggrin I didn't know the theme parks had a soundtrack album! smiley - laugh Mickey's Greatest Hits indeed smiley - ok I can't remember what our Disney albums were called, but we listened to them over and over on long car journeys in the early '90s smiley - ok

A good variety of songs that you're hearing today smiley - ok

Today I am mostly hearing:

smiley - musicalnote'Mamma Mia' – [OST]
smiley - musicalnote'Mama Mia Here We Go Again' – [OST] inexplicably, when listening to these albums the 'skip' button seems to spontaneously operate, particularly during any song sung by the Cherbot or Pierce Brosnan.smiley - weird
smiley - musicalnote'Man Who, The' - Travis
smiley - musicalnote'Maroon' – Barenaked Ladies
smiley - musicalnote'Mary Poppins' – Original London Cast Recording

I went to school with Laura Michelle Kelly, who plays Mary Poppins. There are some superfluous songs not by the Sherman brothers and a subplot involving Mr Banks' nasty nanny, who amusingly is called Miss Andrews. Mr Banks is played by the detective from 'The Thin Blue Line' but at least the person playing Dick van Dyke can actually speak English and say 'Hello Mary Poppins' without it sounding like 'Arrow Hairy Robins'.

Icy:
smiley - okMemory Almost Full - Paul McCartney
smiley - okMidnight at the Lost and Found -Meat Loaf
smiley - blueMonster -REM

smiley - ermMonty Python’s Flying Circus

Monty Python are best known for their comedy albums and I'm only listening to music at the moment, (otherwise anyone who said 'Goon Show' would have got an infinite number of points..) Yet I do have album(s?) of songs of theirs.
With other artists I am interpreting it that if you name the title of the group without an album title you mean a greatest hits album, and so with 'Monty Python' I am using the same rules. I have their greatest hits album 'Monty Python Sings', so Icy gets a point. There may be another Monty Python(ish) musical album in my possession.

There's still lots of Ms left, I've only got as far as 'Mar'

Thinking about it, I'd probably be prepared to listen to the 'Mama Mia' soundtracks more if they'd asked Steve Coogan to sing 'Knowing Me Knowing You' and emphasise the 'Ah-ha!'s…

I should have said earlier that what I admire most about the band Travis isn't that they're presumably named after a Blake's 7 character, but their songwriting. They appear to write songs by opening a smiley - book such as a dictionary at random, pointing to a word with their eyes closed and then using that word as the basis of their next song by repeating it ad infinitum.

Let's compare some of the lyrics of their songs:

Song: 'Turn', Lyrics: 'If we turn, turn, turn, turn, turn' etc
Song: 'Sing', Lyrics: 'But if you sing, sing, sing, sing, sing, sing' etc
Song: 'Happy', Lyrics: 'And I'm so happy 'cause you're so happy I'm so happy 'cause you're so happy I'm so happy 'cause you're so happy and I'm so happy 'cause you're so happy'.
