Sub-editing 'The Beano'

Hi <BB<

I have taken it upon myself to Sub-edit The Beano. The new version is A87910752 - please subscribe!

A few more queries as I read through:

"The central composition was also different. While the modern Beano is entirely based on comic strips, the early Beano had adventure stories told with illustrated text as well as panel stories rather than comic frames."

Can I just check - is this saying there were some comic strips, but the pages in the centre were not comic strips?

"If a similar survey was carried out among comic collectors, the results would be the same "

This is an unusual sentence - have there been surveys, or is there some other evidence to suggest that comic collectors like Beano and Dandy best?

Hello

The early Beano had illustrated text narrative stories and panel stories with descriptions and dialogue in inverted commas beneath the panels, rather than comic strips in which the story is told entirely within a panel with minimal text description and all dialogue contained within speech bubbles.

So if a character was to say hello, in a panel story it would look thus:

smiley - smiley
'Hello' said the smiley, who was in a friendly mood.

A comic would just say:
smiley - sigh

(only with 'Hello' in a speech bubble).

You can delete the survey sentence as that was part of the original entry and I don't know if any such surveys have been carried out since it was originally written.

Thanks <BB< - I tweaked the sentence about the composition to clarify that it wasn't about the centre of the publication smiley - laugh

Yes indeed I deleted that mention of the hypothetical survey, as I don't believe it even hypothetically, plus I found this http://www.sterlingtimes.co.uk/memorable_images3.htm which is an interesting copy of the paragraph as it was...

smiley - ok

I've read through the entry and it makes more sense without that sentence. (In fact, if you've no more questions I'm happy for button-pressing to occur smiley - winkeye)

My only other question would have been whether you are happy with this now, so button pressing has occurred smiley - ok
