>>the name 'Shanklin' is derived from the Saxon scenc hlinc, <<
should that be "Anglo-Saxon"? (A695478)

You're right - it was from the Granite Fort (now zoo).
Although the era is now known as Anglo-Saxon, the Isle of Wight was settled by the Jutes and then conquered by the Saxons of Wessex, not the Angles. You could add a link to A599664?

I've added that link
>>A second pipeline from Sandown was laid, <<
Was the pipeline from Sandown Granite Fort?
I only asked because you linked to the fort. Does it want adding to the text?

Yes, we can change it so that it says 'Sandown Granite Fort' rather than just 'Sandown'. Good idea.

Spent another weekend at the house previously occupied by my mother. Came across a postcard sent from Blackgang Chine imagine my shock! How uncanny is this world of ours sometimes
It's probably a collector's dream now. My grandma loved the IoW so much she had many holidays there. I have teatowels and souvenirs from there I don't know what to do with them. I've never been but I feel like I know the place very well indeed...

I must admit I'm intrigued - do you know when the postcard dates from? Blackgang Chine changes quite frequently, with particularly destructive landslides in 1961 and 1994. There's an Isle of Wight Heritage Facebook group which often enjoys discussing pictures of postcards and souvenirs of days gone by.
It's funny – the more I read about the Island, the less I feel I know it and the bigger it seems.

I'll nab the postcard next time I'm at the house, I confess I don't know the date of it, but if you're interested I will post it to you (in a separate envelope). It would be a shame for it to end up in the recycle box! Drop me a private message at Facebook with your address.

Right, will do. Thanks very much
Incidentally, I keep meaning to ask if you're planning on finishing the 'Carry On' entries you started?

I have 2 IoW postcards, the Blackgang Chine one is dated 1/7/86 and was sent by my older brother & his family to my parents. There's 10 individual photos which make up the postcard image, including a very angry-looking Humpty Dumpty and a couple of dinosaurs
They're yours as soon as you drop me your address...

Will do – I'm not on very often and not normally for long, but I'll make a note to go on later.
They've completely changed most of the dinosaurs now, and though the stegosaurus that everyone used to climb on is still there, his legs are only half the height they used to be so that children won't fall off so far.

Back subbing again now I've finished all the shopping, wrapping, writing
>>With France officially blockaded during the Napoleonic War and high taxes charged on any goods officially imported into England. << not a complete sentence, as I read that.

Ah yes, a long sentence was edited into three, but it doesn't make much sense as it is. We could re-arrange that section so it becomes:
With France officially blockaded during the Napoleonic War and high taxes charged on any goods officially imported into England smuggling was the only affordable way for common people to get basic goods. For example, the tax on tea until 1784 was 119%, and over three times as much tea was smuggled rather than bought legitimately. Things didn't improve following peace in Europe.

>>sea water was piped and heated to a copper boiler and then fed to the baths<<
is that supposed to say: sea water was piped to a copper boiler, heated and then fed to the baths

Thanks for your hard work - I've got to get back into the swing of subbing too...
Just a couple of minor tweaks to be made before the button is pressed:
Seaplane hanger – should be hangar
In footnote 4, nbsp should be Does it need a space before?
