Clearcutting
Posted May 11, 1999
Yes, I know, it's never in the news. No one ever seems to worry about it, unless they use the backcountry. I happen to be an avid backpacker and rock climber, and whenever I drive out to a trailhead in the Cascade Range I see the incredibly unsightly squares of dirt and stumps called...clearcuts.
Man. It just pisses me off no end. We just let the big paper companies like Weyerhauser cart off half the trees in the whole damn country. Come on! I'm sure there are other ways to make paper, to make pencils, to make homes. Isn't it all rather pointless?
Oh well. Nothing one student can do. I suppose I could write a Letter to the Editor...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
