Guest Dinner and so on...

Last night was the college's Guest Dinner which, shockingly, is a dinner for people to bring guests to.
I, however, chose not to bring a guest and instead volunteered to help with the pre- and post-dinner dishing out of free booze.
(Which of course meant I had to check the various highly alcoholic cocktails at regular intervals to be sure they were safe for public consumption...)
So, while everyone else was paying vast sums of cash to get drunk, dance badly and fall over, me and two of my mates actually got paid for doing more or less the same thing...
Jolly civil of the college, I'd say...

Physics Dinner

Last night was that most revered of university traditions, the subject dinner.
Starting off with pre-pre-dinner drinks (a cheeky chaser or two at the college bar) and followed by official pre-dinner drinks (a fine glass of sherry or eight)
the annual 4-course slap-up meal is notorious for marvellous food and, of course, more booze than you can shake a stick at. Having got through about two bottles of wine apiece over dinner (one red, one white) the post-dinner drinks came out, to the accompaniment of our "interesting speaker" for the evening.
Anyway, after he'd said his bit, and the port decanter had made about four laps of the table, we adjourned back to the college bar for a quick nightcap before last orders, after which we descended upon one of the local nightclubs en masse, much to the amusement of the locals.
Ah yes, this is what university life is all about...

Yoiks. To save anyone else from making the same mistake as I have done, let me tell you one essential bit of advice...
A bottle of vodka is too much for one man. That's what shot-glasses are for.
(Although it can be handy if you feel that you really need a 15-hour long lie in...)
