To put it in perspective...

'Thought by some to be the essence of H2G2, the original 'DP' button was aesthetically sophisticated and psychologically soothing, unlike the hopelessly common 'help' button. Even if pressing it did not actually help, it felt reassuring just to read the words, 'Don't Panic!'

We know what we really want!smiley - winkeye

Exactly Taliesen, really that's what i miss the most...all of the moderation stuff...ofcourse i think it's ghastly but the "DONT PANIC!" button really was part of our core tradition. What did i read somewhere...they took it away because those who were "unfamiliar" with the book wouldn't know what it was...Sigh...they seem to be catering to the new more than to the old...and darn it the newbies would figure it out sooner or later! I want the F*****G (funking) button back...

You know moderating curse words is really stupid...it makes me want to curse and moderate myself SO much more.

*blows kisses to the moderators*

I work on a notebood computer with a small screen. I use the Goo interface, (of course!), and I see no reason why the Don't Panic button, slightly modified perhaps, could not reside where the current help button sits. Lots of room.smiley - magic

I have, ahem, smiley - winkeye designed one such button, which not only says Don't Panic and Help, but also has a large '?' as a background. It is a very simple graphic, and immediately recognizeable.

Maybe when the techies change/re-style the interface...???

I'm still working out how to write a Guide Entry on knot-tying! smiley - online2long

smiley - star'Reasonable' You were expecting reasonable? Not in this life. Not on this planet anyway!

Interesting, usually. Weird, frequently. Dull, rarely. Exciting, even more rarely. Reasonable, never!smiley - yikes

There. Now was that so unreasonable?smiley - winkeye

Sigh...ah no I suppose that was not unreasonable. Occasionally, overwhelming could be added, Slightly hysterical, fabulously useless...

A more reasonable life thou...to me, seems to be one *without* so much waste, junk, trash, marketed craphola in trade for the feeling of pseudo happiness that equates to waking up on an idle tuesday towards the end of you life with a stark feeling of loss.

HUm diddy dum dum dum, we'll see, we'll see...

Here, have a smiley - rose, and/or maybe a smiley - cupcake, aw, what the heck, c'mere ya big goof! smiley - hug

It all depends on your frame of reference, dosen't it?

While I agree regarding the general crapulous state of things in the world today, is it not true that you and I see all of this from a strictly limited viewpoint?

Everything seems so hopeless, so stupid and downright evil. And you and I are just two little powerless nobodies floating around in cyberspace... Aren't we?.. Are we?

Or maybe we actually do create reality, with our intentions. And each one of us may have only the ability to affect a very small part of that reality, it is still a part of reality --

But on the other hand this is all probably just a waste of time. I mean, it would be so much simpler to go out and start sniping people from some tall building, or blow up trains or something. Hell, if ya can't solve the problems, just blow the f*****s up!

Or just sit quietly in miserable helplessness and isolation until you die of bitter disappointment.

I'll take door number one, please. Much more cheery, don't you think? And what if it just happens to be the right choice? What if a couple of hundred true spirits of the earth - humans - act in accord? A thousand? A million? You do the math!

And loss? No thing is ever lostsmiley - winkeye
