Have I done anything interesting?
Posted Dec 24, 2000
Hmmm. Still not written anything, I see. I have achieved some things recently...
I got some kind of Employee of the Year accolade thing for saving paper, doing three times that for which I am paid, helping people who are paid 150% of my own wage with their job and suggesting and ultimately maintaining a small intranet. I get to go to Perth for a weekend with a girlfriend of my choice. Better than nowt and I should have a nice CV when I finally apply for something elsewhere.
Bought a flat the other week in whichI am now sitting. Admittedly I've already had to shoulder open the door after leaving the keys inside but it's still looking quite nice.
Bought everyone in my immediate family and circle (except people who have moved away, I admit) a Christmas present reasonably far in advance. It's Jungle's fault rather than mine that my sister will only get half her present this side of January 10th.
It's been at least eight months now since I last woke up sweating for no apparent reason. It's great not having the pressure of impending work, exams or essays despite all the apparent free time available to students. It'salso amazing how much money I seem to have now.
Off to turn off the radio before all the god crap for Christmas comes on. Happy present-giving time to you all. If you actually celebrate the anniversary of the birth of some form of messiah it has to be said that you're deluding yourself. Cheerbye.

I understand I'm probably prevented in some indefinable legal way of slagging off an ISP or a telecommunications company... but it has to be said that the company whose name is an acronym of consumption and the ISP akin to the top of a page are crap. Three working days? Eight working days and a weekend and still no free access between dusk and dawn. It's been enough to get the "you're getting close to the call limit you set" letter. All the money I saved getting this PC off a mate will soon be swallowed up.
Weep. No pies for me.
Still. It could be worse. I only lose one horizontal inch of visible screen at the moment due to a crap video driver, monitor or both. It's the work of ten seconds to close down the menu animation each time I login seeing as the system doesn't want to remember every preference. I only have to reboot twice in a session to make the mouse and soundcard function normally.
I only wish I could play Descent without it crashing. Oh well.
I will write some more proper articles soon, I promise.

Gah!

Unfair. Get connected at home, have the luxury of going to h2g2.com directly rather than using the re-login key thing and I don't have enough time to do anything. I am, however, about to go to a restaurant. Need to start reviewing things as there's no way I'll have enough time to start subbing again for a while. Not least, I say, until I've moved flat (into one that I own. Hah) and bought Descent 3.
More time. Time.
I shall return sometime soon. Perhaps between 05:30 and 07:00 on weekday mornings, when I usually watch the news before going to work but could do things. We shall see.

Got a modem, got a PC too, time to get myself connected. I'm finally writing this in the comfort of my own home. Lovely.

Damned browser incompatibility

Look at the above. Look at it. Are you using Netscape? IE5? Maybe you have both? Please study and compare them. Which one is crap? Which one works? I won't even begin to attempt to fix it now. I've finally got my mobile and I'm off to play with it. Unfashionable? Old hat? Something I should have done as a student? Yarbles. It took me four months to get it after ordering and there's lots of pent-up technological experimentation potential to dissipate.
I will start writing for the guide again, honest. I just need one more week. Then I shall be connected at home.
