Hi - I've been allocated your rather excellent entry on measuring things using statistics, which can be found at A37616763.
I've added a few missing commas and checked the spelling and grammar - changed a few things to American spelling and took out some repetitions.
Also added a footnote to the effect that the measurement will always be slightly too long due to the introduction of a diagonal and one in the "precision" engineering in imperial units bit.
>>However, various cunning ways of doing this unaided have been developed by males when the distaff side has gone shopping just when you need them.<<
Rather sexist - but it's tongue in cheek, so I'll leave it, though I changed "them" to "her".
Do we need the (sic)? Won't people notice the pun as is?
Oh, and I removed the first "magic" from the end, because twice in two paragraphs was too much

Lucky you Mala
>>Though true precision measuring is better done in metric!<< Says who?
>>changed a few things to *American* spelling<< I sincerely hope not!!
I'm going to take issue with you over the link from *males* to *Masculinity in the Movies*. This falls into the category of what I call gratuitous links - in this case an oblique cross-reference for the sake of it. These are something of a bĂȘte noire with me
Could you put the footnote 10 marker at the end of the sentence. In its present position it looks like 10 to the power of 10.
[sic] - I put this in originally to preempt wry comments in PR, but I think it serves its purpose just as well for those readers who come after
Other than that, good job Mala - thanks

Precision is easier when your units are decimals rather than strange fractions. Quite simple. Says almost everyone except Americans
I meant *from* American of course - sorry!
The "Masculinty in Movies" link wasn't simply gratuitous - it was meant to show that the "male" (and, thus, the "female") in that sentence were meant as *stereotypical* versions - else you'll have people getting cross at you for being non-PC
Will change footnote 10 - you're right!
And then the [sic] stays.

So, can I send this back? Since you never commented, I did take out the offending link, though I thought it fit the context.

Sorry Mala, I didn't realise you were waiting for me. Yes by all means send it back. Links are a bit of a hobby-horse of mine; it's very easy to set me off ranting about them
Key: Complain about this post
