John the gardener says, "Free Tibet!"

On the night of 3-4 June, 1989, People's Liberation Army soldiers opened fire on peaceful pro-democracy demonstrators in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China. The number of people killed that night is unknown. The Chinese government still refuses to acknowledge any wrong or allow any public mourning by the those who lost family members or friends in the massacre.

Hi, JTG,

I have signed smiley - rosesmiley - cheerup and I hope everyone who sees your message will do so. China is a growing force in the world and it is only right that we do what we can to "encourage" them to behave in a more democratic manner.

I met a Chinese couple a few years ago whose children were being educated in one of our universities. They were educated, cultured people and it is so hard to imagine what it is like to live in a country where such things happen but be able to do nothing.

These mothers need all the support and encouragement they can get.

Thanks, Websailor. It must be awful to have lost a love one and have to live with the official denials and suspicion. To think that these poor people are putting themselves at risk simply by mourning those who were killed. smiley - sadface

I have a friend who has been living in Argentina for the past five months, and they have similar problems there. Many people have just been "removed" and have never been found. It must be a nighmare to never know what has happened to your loved ones. Finding bodies is traumatic and final but at least they would know.

It's no wonder that the relatives of 'the disappeared' all over the world hold vigils that last for years. How could they not under the circumstances? They must go through hell. smiley - sadface
