Florida Sailor All is well with the world Posted Jul 18, 2017
No, no no no no we never leave her alone, maybe for a minute or two to use the rest room or grab a beverage, but never for more than that. It is more to give her a little outside freedom from control than any kind of neglect.
Our current dog also has a bit of a socialization problem, we suspect she was used as a breeder by a puppy mill. When we first got her it was obvious she had had a recent litter. The stories about how they are treated is heartbreaking, We work with her on a daily basis – some days are good – but each day is different.
In our park private fences are against the rules, so in our old house the best we could do was to tether her on the patio when we sat outdoors. The 'new' house came with a fenced dog run which we are allowed to keep under the 'grandfather policy' as it was built before the rule was put in place. As I said there used to be garden shed along one side that left a gap in the fence. As soon as that is replaced (hopefully in the next two weeks) we can let her run free in the enclosure, but never without one of us sitting nearby.

Oh. Sweet!
Doggie ziplines are great when they're supervised.
Places that don't allow dog fences are just insane. (or they really hate dogs).

Funny how differently cats and dogs are treated.

My Dumb Cat
by Bruce Lansky
My cat never comes when I call her.
She cannot remember her name.
Her brain is the size of a thimble.
And that’s why my cat is so lame.
I tried to teach her to roll over,
to shake, beg, and fetch wooden sticks.
We practiced and practiced and practiced.
My dumb cat could not learn the tricks.
Then one day my cat was a hero.
She captured a small, squeaky mouse.
She hid the dead mouse in the sofa.
My dumb cat stunk up the whole house.
I wonder why cats were invented.
They eat and they drink and they purr.
There’s only one trick they know how to do:
they sit on your lap and shed fur.

Shedding a mat of cat hair felt inside the igloo helps to keep the floor of it warm and dry.

Did the cat get the idea by itself, or was someone in the wings encouraging it?

Not as sharp as locust thorns, though I grew up in a place where there were a lot of locust trees. You didn't go barefoot in the grass.
