So what is h2g2 like, on a WAP phone? Are there any problems that you think need fixing?

Welcome to the guide, Binky!

I can't believe someone's actually tried it... I thought WAPs were a flop!

Biggest problem with doing journal entires via a WAP phone is the risk of the connection timing out. I've had this happen a few times. Entering large amounts of text on a 7110 is a chore.

Not sure how usable The Guide is on WAP, I need to do some more concerted testing before I report back.

WAP isn't a flop, it just doesn't have that killer application yet.

Judging by the way WAP phones are selling out, enough people seem to be buying into the concept.

Someway of WAP applications 'knowing' where you are so that information you look for (say in a resturant guide) could be relevent would be cool.

It does have the killer app: h2g2!
Ok, not -killer- yet.

But I'm waiting for the next generation, the ones Orange et al gave £200 billion to Gordon Brown for licences for?

h2g2 has a lot of potential and I'm a full supporter of that, however it's not there yet. And there is the question of whether WAP is the right medium... maybe wireless internet devices, maybe something else.

3G phones and the technology behind them I think will catapult things. Bluetooth too may have a big part to play. The big thing is going to be about devices that are 'always on' and that make handling the information easy.

I'm going to try going half way and install a WAP browser on my Palm IIIc... maybe that will make creating journal entries easier.

Neil.
