Potential Internet Woes

It seems that, for some unknown reason, the company by which I remain employed has decided to no longer pay for the ADSL connections of its employees. This means that I will have to pay for it myself, which is something I would prefer not to do. However, I will dish out the CDN $70.00/month if it means keeping my high-speed connection. It sucks, but normally, that would be that.

Enter Telus. Telus has informed us that they will (eventually) be calling each of us (the employees) to ask us what we want to do about our connection. If we decide to keep it, then they create a new account for each of us (all connections are currently under the company's account). Seems simple, doesn't it?

If you think it should be simple, then you are not thinking the Telus way. First, we have been informed that all our email addresses must be changed because the email addresses we already have are linked to the company account, which will soon be no more. Why they have it set up this way baffles me, and I see no reason why, if they're closing the company account, they can't just reassign those email addresses.

Second, rather than phoning us to allow us to say something like, "Yes! God almighty, Yes! I wish to keep my ADSL connection! It's my lifeblood! I don't care how much it costs!", Telus has started randomly shutting down our connections, usually just before the weekend when it is apparently impossible to restore the connection. One of my coworkers had his connection cut off on August 24 (thursday), and now he has to wait for monday before he can do anything about it.

Which brings me to the point of this particular journal entry. Since Telus may decide to kill my connection at any moment, I may in fact suddenly disappear from h2g2 until I can get it restored, for which I apologise in advance. However, I might get (very very) lucky and they'll call me first. I'm not placing any bets on it, though.

Why are so many corporations so utterly devoid of tact and common sense? Why must I suffer their slings and arrows of outrageous mismanagement?

I'm in Hell...

...in Diablo II, that is. I finally bumped into ol' Diablo himself, and just before I managed to land my first blow, he killed me. In fact, he literally killed me in less than one second.

I don't know what to say about this. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

New digs...

No, I haven't moved, but my office has. We finished the move in one day, something I didn't think was possible. So I've gone from sharing a room with three other people to having my very own office. Never had my own office before. It's sweet. smiley - smiley

Space Channel 5

I picked this game up for the Dreamcast last thursday. Excellent game. I've managed to collect 98% of all the people (just missing victim #34 but I can't seem to find him/her).

After playing it for a couple of days I managed to clear all of the levels without making a single mistake. Of course, I had to enlist Kensington's help. He would ping up and down on the table to the music so that, when I had to repeat a sequence, I just looked at Kensington to get the timing right. He seemed to having a great time doing it, and he managed to somehow keep it up for hours.

He told me that he was going to write about a party adventure on h2g2 here, but I'm afraid I took up all of his time with my game. Oops. He should have told me sooner, I guess.
