no your not! it's called being alert.
The slightest sound and I'm awakehouses have creaks etc and even someone walking down the street making a noise as such.

It's a "throwback" to Neanderthal timeswhen things that can harm you in the night etc. Many have lost that instinct and can sleep through anythingbecause times have changed in safety etc
it's the same if someone makes you "jump" it's your reaction to possible attack

Just was an odd sensation, it was.

many years ago when at home, I once couldn't get to sleep for hearing a gurgling type noise ? I looked all round my bedroom, went into the bathroom next door and no dripping taps etc ?
got back to bed and found a "wet patch" on my pillow turned out that my ear was "leaking" ? and the sort of dripping was the cause the next day whatever it was cleared

I've had the same thing on occasion, usually in very hot weather.

Earwax does melt.

bloody hell I never thought of that at the time and I've no idea at what time of year it happened, but I reckon that could be the cause/answer

Thing is, if you have that kind of trouble, most likely you've put off a needed cleaning for too long.
