A totally unrelated thought just occurred to me.
There's about 3 million of us SETI@home people using nothing more expensive than our home PCs to try to discover intelligent extra-terrestrial life while NASA and the like spend millions and millions on sending space probes to look for microbes out there.
Why don't they save money by joining us and then get the ETs to look for the microbes?
