h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

So I guess it's time for some updates, seeing as I just registered for the conference yesterday.

I'm pretty excited. And nervous. And excited. And I haven't even started writing my lecture, yet! But I have plenty of ideas. And I have time, still. It'll be fine. But I'm still nervous. But it should be good. Yeah.



Now, to the important bits: I will be in Leeds from June 29th to July 4th, so that would be a good time for a mini-meet up north; and on Friday, July 5th, I'll go to London and spend a few days there (not sure how many yet, something between a long weekend and a week), because last time I visited there I was about 12, and there's a lot to see and do. So if Leeds doesn't work out (or actually, even if it does), that will be a good time for a mini-meet in London. Let's do this! I've never been to a h2g2 meet before, so would really hate to miss that chance.


Also, I will need somewhere to stay in London... I can try to find some friends-of-friends there, or use CouchSurfing, or something, but if any of you lot can host me, that'd be brilliant. I'm a pretty good guest, if I do say so myself. And I promise to bring you something nice from Israel and/or from the medieval craft fair at the conference. Any takers?

I'd definitely love to meet you! Can't offer you a place to stay unless you want to detour through Belfast, though.

And YAY for meeting up!
I'm not sure how to go about organising a more 'proper' h2g2-[mini-]meet (do you have any idea, maybe?) but if you can come down to the Slightly Bigger Island at any time during my stay, it would be awesome to meet up (I guess that would be a nano-meet)... and by the way, if you can make it to Leeds during the conference, you will probably enjoy the public parts of it. There's a medieval craft fair, on one of the days (Tuesday, I think), and also some other medieval-themed stuff.

Right, can't really seem to find it (the London Meet user page doesn't seem to have been updated since 2011; looks like there were some meets since, though), but I guess I'll start a thread on Ask, like you suggested, and see where it goes from there.

I have my talk planned out, but haven't rehearsed it yet (to figure out time and pacing and that). Hope to do so before I head out, although of course I still have a few days before I'll need to speak.

I'm planning to take a trip to Scotland soon, but probably not in July. I would have loved to go to this.

Actually, it's on me - I didn't really have time to organise a meet, even when I was here before the conference. Was doing too many other things.

But the conference was really great - and London should be fun!
