Thanks.
the very fact that they're called "smileys" is enough to put me off using them myself.

That's allright. I understand how it is: you don't wish to make it obvious that my artistic skill is superior to yours.

Indeed. Ben and Jason have an album of the same name.
However, the emotions that said emoticons cover don't include 'self-hatred' or 'despair'.
Sad / blue / grr just don't cut it in my .

"the emotions that said emoticons cover don't include 'self-hatred' or 'despair' ."
Still, there's a good range. Consider a Saturday night:

I wasn't speaking for myself. I don't drink and I'm vegetarian:

I went out for a drink with a friend. Now I'm back home, summoning Lucifer.

Snailrind Posted Nov 1, 2004
Did he appear to you, or was he too busy? If you did get to meet him, what was he like? I've always fancied selling my soul. It seems like a real bargain to me, since, unlike Lucifer, I'm not a dualist.

I got bored and watched a documentary about the war on terror. No commitment, you see.

That's probably just as well. You've put me in mind of a friend of my father's, who tried a little *too* hard to summon Lucifer. Apparently, part of the ceremony requires you to burn a human foreskin.
This guy cast his circle and kicked off the ceremony with incantations and whatever else he was supposed to do; then he got to the part where the foreskin was required. Unable to pick one up on eBay, he opted to use his own, and removed it with a razorblade. Understandably, this resulted in intense pain and, during his agonized contortions, he managed to mislay it. So there he was, with all the furies of Hell hurtling towards his house at a thousand miles per hour, and no foreskin to stop them with. He did the only sensible thing he could do. He burned his house to the ground.

When I read your work,
It does to me what Autumn
Does to apple trees.
Tricks are always treats:
I gobble up your wordplay
When I read your work.
When you cease to write
It feels as though my lantern's
Candle has blown out.
Nights are drawing in.
I'm blinded to your talent
When you cease to write.

Scrumptious and wonderful MrFlay,
As I am certain that you no longer visit h2g2, and will never see this flamenco zombie interpretation of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, the fact that it's a day late isn't going to matter.

Hope you had a gloom-fest.
