Diddy! Posted Feb 3, 2004
Personally i would like to see ALL the 'help' pages created by this individual to be hidden. In one of the many id's he STILL ha has a page called Guardian Angels Help Page n Titania has has already told him to change the name n was completely ignored. These help pages are about as welcome as a dose of the piles.

My YIKES was overturned, which isn't a huge surprise. I just replied saying that I'm much less concerned about a single post in my space than I am about his overall pattern of behavior, and ran down a brief laundry list of his transgressions. I also asked them, again, to deal with the greater issue.
I agree, Old Hairy, they appear to be dealing with molehills, and ignoring the mountain of problems Liam has caused.
Hopefully there's more going on behind the scenes than we are aware of

Or perhaps dealing with the molehills rather than the mole. Which is what the mods are for. Ultimately its the site managers who have to decide how to deal with the mole.

Might it not be a good idea to run a thread with the highlights of the days posting only, maybe put together by the Post Team or someone, and posted to convenient place, say the U565055 PS,
Something like.

Anyone agree, we could do with an announcement from the towers on the entire problem.

We could certainly do with an announcement on it... How long have they been looking into it now?

Old Hairy Posted Feb 3, 2004
During the turmoil, the veracity of U565055 was (to me at least) open to doubt. My thinking was that opening a new PS was a strange way to deal with a miscreant with a habit of opening new PSs. Being in the journal of an established account, this thread had no such problems.
Now that U565055 seems quite bona fide, I have no objection to posting there at all. Over the weekend, things were rather different, and I viewed U565055 as a distraction rather than a help. Sorry to have doubted you, but I hope this little note clarifies things a bit.
One side effect of all this is that it quite took away the joy of gaining a new badge. I got involved with the problem before I got the badge, but am mightily relieved that no-one suggested I started throwing my weight around as soon as I was awarded it.
Will posting the complaint references help, or confuse? As I see it, the complaint reference will be known only to the mods, and the recipient of the e-mail confirming the complaint. (As an aside, it might be a good idea if those references were not A numbers, but X numbers or something.)
For the record, my complaints were:-
Complaint | Target A No. | Result. | Ultimate Target
A216936.. | .A2248229.. | hidden | U569628 One of the PS
A216968.. | .A2233720.. | remain | A2233720 Juniors Help Page
A216969.. | .A2247743.. | remain | A2247743 USA Help Page
If you want that under U565055, feel free to copy it there. I have to do a few RL things for the next hour or so.

I was thinking more of a fix for the backlog. Congrats on the new badge by the way, I hope the free PC come soon to compliment it. Subject: The Liam Saga http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F17555?thread=375949&latest=1 :)

Glad to see the italics are doing something about it, so I guess we can all stop worrying and let them get on with it

Thanks for providing that link, i didnt know where to find that thread. i see the italics are aware of the situation, and have sent emails to the offender, will this be the last we see of Liam? Time will tell. A good sign that he hasn’t as far as I know, been around since the w/end.

Update, re: U565055 had the nickname reset, for breaking the House Rules today. So it's now:
Researcher 565055 [**GOD]
An intoduction has been added. Plus the information updated to show more of old names used with U numbers.

What House Rule did it break Jab?
I started the Liam Saga thread (my apologies if I didn't link it here - I thought I had), and as such I will be going back to the Editors adn asign for more clarification, especially the point about the over all situation. However I will leave it for a few days.
One of the things I am aware of is that h2g2 now has only 2 staff - Natalie and Jim Sangster (Jimster). Jim Lynn now works for DNA, although manages the h2g2 tech stuff through that.
It's unclear from Jim Lynn's post to 'The Liam Saga' exactly what they are doing, but I am reading it at this stage as Editor intervention rather than just the moderation process.
I think keeping a log of the yikesed posts and mod responses is a very good idea, not the least because it will make the moderation process more visible and coherent. It'd be good to see such a log set out in an easy to read manner as suggested above. I do realise that will be a lot of work for someone though.

kea, the nickname broke the rules. Maybe pointing to another U number may have upset somebody? It's no bother anyway.
