Hello St. Romani, nice to meet you as well. :D

I don't mind being messaged at all. I like meeting new people. And thank you for the complement on my page, by the way!

Yeah, I'm on irregularly myself. School and theatre and all... It keeps me busy. Though not as busy as when I was doing all this AND working full time... Yowsers! smiley - erm

I'm also trying to figure out what kind of entry to write, but it's hard because all the ones pertaining to my interests have been taken. Although I haven't seen a good comprehensive article on Buddhism... Hmmmm...

Well, take care! Gotta smiley - run

thankyou for replying patrick smiley - smiley

if there is,nt anything decent about buddhism on here then i think that would be a good article for you to do, after all this site wants as many views as possible on all subjects.......go for it & good lucksmiley - rose

i,m a spiritualist & i also work with crystals on another level, although there is plenty on here to do with the crystals I can put a fresh look on it all so that is what I,m going to write about when i get the time lol, I have already done a piece on pendulum dowsing which after much aggro from a skeptic got in the edited guide smiley - biggrin

I have also wrote another on the history of dowsing.....this I will be tidying up when im back online for more than a few days & putting into peer review where I,m sure i will get more aggro from the skeptic community.......but hey who cares scientists dont know it all like they think they do smiley - laugh

my page is called the crystal cavern & on that its all about the quartz crystal mainly but i do intend in time to add more pages on that about the more obscure crystals again when i have the time smiley - doh

My mom used to work with crystals. I think along the way she became a certified reiki master too. She hasn't worked with either in a very long time, I don't know why. One day I just kinda stopped hearing about it. Of course, maybe I'm just not paying enough attention. smiley - biggrin

I used to be pagan myself. I still believe in magic (and magick, too), and all that, but Buddhism just seemed to call me. It felt like home. You know what I mean?

No worries. I was offline for a bit too.

I've never heard of a spirit naming ceremony. It sounds interesting, what's the story behind it? Meaning, I know you said it's like a christening. What's the significance of this particular ritual?

Usually, in Buddhism, you are given a new name if you become a monk, or a nun. There are honorific titles that go along with it too, depending on the tradition. For example: A couple of Theravada Buddhism titles are Bikkhu (or Bikkhuni for women), which means devotee or seeker; and Ajahn, which means teacher, or I think the more specific translation is One Who Has Gone Before. Is this anything like that, plus or minus the honorific?

Hope all is well.

hi patrick

in spiritualism we believe that we all have a true spirit name, in the naming ceremony who ever is conducting the service tunes in to the spirit world for the name to be given to them, its a solemn affair in that i have to agree to bind by the 7 principles of spiritualism & also recite them the principles are:

1. The Fatherhood of God
2. The Brotherhood of Man
3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels
4. The continuous existence of the Human Soul
5. Personal Responsibility
6. Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on Earth
7. Eternal Progress open to every Human Soul

by accepting and confirming my commitments through the ceremony im signifying my loyalty to the Spiritualists National Union

May Love and Light be with you

take care talk soon

Yeah, safety is a good thing. I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions, but I really am curious.

I found out a few days ago that my Sangha (my community of buddhist practicioners) is going to be hosting a forest monk from Thailand in June. We're finding him a place to camp and bringing him food and such, and he's going to teach dharma to us while he's here. Yay! smiley - biggrin I'm thinking about volunteering to bring him food a few times while he's here. I guess he hails from Wat Pong Nanachat, which is a forest monastery for westerners in Thailand. Apparently he's a Thai monk from Minnesota! smiley - laugh

Hope everything is well with you. Sorry I missed the party in the lders room. I was performing last night. Which might have, not... been, night for you? smiley - erm What time zone are you in?

hi patrick smiley - biggrin

the thai monk sounds interesting & im sure your idea to take him food is to pick his brains right smiley - winkeye

time zone! well right now as im typing this msg the time is 12.55.p.m so if the time on this msg is different to that i suppose thats the time difference smiley - smiley

Hey Romani,

Ha! Well, yes, there is a desire to pick his brains, obviously. smiley - winkeye But mostly, because monks aren't allowed to either prepare their own food or handle money, he's gonna need to eat something. And he's only allowed one meal a day (I should say, he's taken a vow to allow HIMSELF one meal a day), and that's before a certain time of the day. So it's more of a desire to help out.

And pick his brains. smiley - laugh

Okay, the time zone question was a bad one. Where are you? Just out of curiosity.

England. I'm in Portland, Oregon. Which I've heard has a similar climate, roughly, to London. But I can't be too sure about that. I've never been there.

Well, good luck on getting your flat in order! I hate moving, myself. I hope it goes expediently for you.
