Problems.......

Aargh! It hurts to walk. I keep walking because I know if I don't, I will be chair bound. I am taking medication for arthritis, but it doesn't do much for the muscle cramping that causes the problem walking.

Saturday afternoon I stepped wrong and hurt my hip...again......then my shoulder popped and was extremely sore. I imagine some of the problem stemmed from the four hour ride in the car and then the activity Friday night. At any rate, my walking ability was cut to barely moving. Lord C. decided I needed to be at home so we left at five and were home by nine. I spent Sunday in the recliner--except for brief necessary trips. Monday was a bit better and so far today I have been able to get up and about a little more.

I had been having trouble with arthritis pain prior to the latest incident and was using a cane in my left hand. Since it was the left shoulder that popped (possibly a calcium deposit), it was impossible to use the cane at that time. I am getting a bit better as each day goes by.

Thanks for listening.

Breath Holding Time

It's here.............spring storm season! smiley - cross

"April showers bring May flowers". Only partially true........it also brings severe weather to the Midwest.

There were storms all around us last night--some producing golf ball sized hail!

We escaped the bad stuff (this time) and got a little rain out of the clouds. smiley - smiley

Each spring I hold my breath and hope the iris will be allowed to bloom without incident. Most of the time we have blooms. I hope this is one of those times, as the plants are truly loaded with buds. We planted eight new varieties last year and most of those have budded as well. It's almost like Christmas when the iris bloom. Each day I walk around the yard checking the progress of the flowers and each day I discover something new. (Not brand new--it was there last year, but it seems to be new each spring.)smiley - biggrin

Gotta go! It's time for my stroll around the yard.

Musings from the Midwest

It's a sunny Sunday and I am bored! This was a busy, busy week and as it is winding down, I feel a let down.

Hyp and Annie visited Wednesday, Thursday, and left for the wilds of Missouri Friday morning. I missed them before they got around the corner.

Wednesday evening we fixed a hillbilly dinner--bar b qued ribs, rice, and smiley - corncob.

We shopped till we dropped Thursday--taking in stores that she doesn't have access to in her part of the world. We visited one of the local Oriental Markets to stock up on canned mushrooms, and other goodies not readily available in the local stores. Lord C. and I have been shopping there for several years. Our next stop was lunch with my daughter and son-in-law. After lunch we went to a wonderful Tea Store, sampled their tea of the day and generally enjoyed the atmosphere. We had to visit a shoe store--yes, Hyp has those at home, but it isn't often that she gets to shoe shop with her niece and sister. smiley - smiley

Thursday evening we were invited to my son's for dinner. He has a new grill he was just dying to show off to his Dad. He also wanted his auntie to see all the remodeling he has done on his house.

The time went by too quickly, but there will be a next time. It's our turn to go down there. smiley - biggrin

Brownies

Since Hyp asked about the Brownies we used to make, here is the recipe:

Melt together:
4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
1/2 Cup shortening

Beat:
2 eggs

Beat in:
1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1 cup sugar and cooled chocolate mixture

Sift together and stir in:
3/4 C sifted flour
1/2 tsp. double acting baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt

Stir in:
1 tsp. vanilla
Nutmeats, if desired.

Bake in well-greased pan at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until top has a dull crust.
