I did have a look at the thread but couldn't quite grasp the Palestinian context. Maori are the first peoples here and have a treaty with the crown based on that, that is relatively unique compared to other countries colonised by Europe (or at least the UK). The treaty does't give them legal ownership of NZ, but it is meant to give them legal right to sovereignty. You could also argue that most land was stolen so that if the treaty were fully honoured then yes Maori would probably own most of NZ. Far to complex ever to sort that out though given that most of the land stolen is now owned by someone else other than the thieves.
Not sure what Vicky was meaning by 'belongs to'.
