When Hitchhiker's Guide was first broadcast on the radio, I was living in Shetland. I was instantly hooked, as were some of my friends. (Others thought us freaks and loons.) Nothing got in the way of listening to the next episode of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - I can hear Peter Jones's voice as The Book even now.
Ah well, those days are long gone. Then I had children. Now the children are grown up and I have grandchildren.
And I live and work in London. If you'd told me back in the 1970s and 80s that I would end up in London I would have blenched with horror. I still blench with horror every time I have to struggle with the Tube and the buses or pay the exorbitant rates demanded by the taxis to sit in traffic jams; I shudder every time I try to negotiate some of the frankly mad traffic light schemes in this great city.
More later, when I have time....
