Hi Toy Box, thought I'd come and look if you're well. smiley - smiley
What's your opinion about the result of the latest election in France? Are you happy with it?

I'm happy that all the ridiculous candidates got less than 5% votes in the first round. As for our new president smiley - erm I find him rather creepy. He won a Big Brother award after all.

Apart for that, I'm almost well - applied for permanent positions in French unis and didn't get a single interview smiley - yikes But it looks they don't need algebraists at all this year. Seemingly the new president won't need scientists anyway smiley - winkeye That's a long tradition going back to the French revolution, you know: the chemist Lavoisier having been sentenced to death by the Tribunal Revolutionnaire in 1974 pleaded for mercy, to what the judge allegedly replied: "Monsieur, la République n'a point besoin de savants".

Thanks for enquiring smiley - ok How are things for you then B'El?

Not a single interview? smiley - doh

And it's hard to believe that they don't need scientists, what about all the old tradition of Académie Francaise (can't do cedille) and all that? smiley - huh
Will your current job end anytime soon then, or do you just want to live in France again?

I'm fine, struggling with Icy's latest math entry (your input would be appreciated, as would Recumbentman's, btw). smiley - smiley

Will you be having a bridge day on Friday? Any plans for the weekend?

Well, I think they really just didn't need too many people in my domain. My current job ends in July and I would like to get a permanent position somewhere, not necessarily France but there are even less positions in most countries of which I speak the language.

I read Icy's entry - the one on division, eh? Well, I might pop in to give some input. I'm not sure that most criteria are really applicable (except the obvious ones - 2,4,5,10,25... - 3,9, and 11 because it's funny). For instance, for me it goes faster to check straight divisibility by 7, but it is amusing to know there is a fancy trick like the one described.

Maybe he should add a section about those people who claim that there is something magic about numbers whose iterated sum-of-digits is 9 (you know, the sort who says: oh, look! you take these two number, whose sum-of-digits is 9, and you add them and take the sum of digits and the sum of digits and you get 9 again! And look even more magical, it works if you multiply the numbers too!).

Bridge day on Friday? Not at all, quite the opposite: I'll attend the NWDR Workshop in Cologne on Friday and Saturday - and I'm a speaker on Friday smiley - yikes

What workshop is that? And is it TV or radio?
And what will you be talking about?

And I've never heard about this digit nine thingy you mention. I'll post Icy the link to your post here, then he can have a sleepless night smiley - rofl

It's just a conference:

I could expand a little bit (i.e.: try to explain clearly) on the 9 digit thingie too, if needed.

Thanks for the link - I did laugh when I saw the 'abstract' links - saw them and thought: yes, very abstract smiley - rofl

It looks as if it's quite an honour to be invited there for a speech, though. smiley - bigeyes
Muss ich jetzt Sie zu dir sagen? smiley - winkeye

(Do I have to call you 'sir' now? It's better for me to translate it, don't want to give smiley - lurkers a reason to yikes my post. smiley - smiley)

Do you think the 9 digit thingy is essential? I'm really number blind, so have great difficulties following such entries.

Nee, Du kannst mich noch dutzen (Nah, you can still call me 'lad' smiley - winkeye). The 9 digit thingie is not really essential, at all smiley - cheers

Hallo Du smiley - biggrin

When I asked if you had taken photos I really meant: photos of the Loreley. Have you? And yould you be willing to sned one or two to the eds if my entry gets picked?

Actually, I have photos definitely of *around* the Loreley and *maybe* of the Loreley itself. I don't know whether the rock I captured is the right one, or if it is somewhere on a picture when I was taking something else smiley - erm I will look at likely candidates though if you wish though.

What I have though is pictures of the Burg Katz, maybe of Maus too.

Have you been to one of them? We went to - I think it was Katz, but not sure smiley - senior, may have been Maus, a few years ago, they did a good show with eagles there.
If you could find the time and look for a photo perferably with the Loreley on it, that would be great. smiley - ok
