Used to work every time but they seem to have changed the web address. In any event, you may consider it conflicts with the h2g2 house rule which speaks of ...links to websites...which may offend our users... in that whilst not in itself pornographic, once on the site the reader is only a click away from stuff that arguably is.

Methinks a prudent editor would remove it, as did the editor of my retirement magazine. your choice.

You could try http://www.footfetishmall.com/guest/freepix/socks/sk093.jpg as a close approximation to the real thing but don’t say you haven’t been warned. Yes, I know they’re pink, it’s the best I can come up with - imagination required .

A different person speaking means that the paragraph changes, will take out So? I told him.

Para 5 should be rewritten: -

So I told him. So I justify my continued existence in this make-believe world.

Par 5 second last sentence (I thus justified my continued existence in this make-believe world.) is redundant.

Why not delete everything after Written: 5 November 2000 – (except the footnote)? It’s superfluous without the picture.

Shame about the picture but best avoiding links to sites over which you have no control. Wise decision. IMHO.
