William Jowett was my great great great uncle and I am currently in the process of putting his diary of th Crimean War on the WWW in order to raise fnds to have his statute renovated in Beeston church yard. Do you have any connection with the family?

No relation. My interest stems from my having once lived in Beeston where I attended Church Street School back in the late ‘40s early ‘50s from which time I remember many things, among them the Crimean War Memorial. William Jowett’s name came to mind for some reason a few years ago and I decided to see what I could find out about him. It all started as an academic exercise more than anything else and sort of took off. I was working in Derby at the time, sometimes staying over with my mother who lived in Chilwell, all of which made visiting Beeston and Beeston library easy and my work frequently took me to Plymouth, which was handy.
All that I found out about your great, great, great uncle together with my own thoughts and speculations you can read by following the links from my h2g2 home page. You are welcome to make use of this material and I very much look forward to reading the diaries.
You speak of putting the diaries on the net. One way of doing this would be to write them up as one or more h2g2 Guide Entries as I have done. h2g2 is free, readily accessible and user friendly, it offers a controlled environment, Guide Entries are searchable and you can create links to related Guide Entries and other sites on the Internet. You could create your own web page of course, but I reckon the h2g2 route is easier.
Feel free to drop me a line if you feel I can help in any way.
