Hi Farlander

I have the easy job of editing your guide entry on Yankee Doodle. I have to say it's an interesting article (I'm afraid that the movie is one of my favourites of all time). I was checking out your links to make sure that everything was okay and the one to 'yourdictionary.com' etc doesn't work. However, I searched out Yankee there anyway and their explanation for the origin of the word is that it's the Dutch for John! Is it possible for you to work this in to the entry?!?

Otherwise, once this is sorted out, I shall be passing the article back for addition to the guide.

Regards

Pussycat

hello!

yeah, another researcher reported the broken link a couple of days ago. i was actually waiting for a sub-ed (in this case, you) to show up so that i could pass on the message.

i'll include that bit about 'yankee' meaning 'john'. thanks! (strangely enough, different sites and dictionaries have translated 'yankee' differently, so that one doesn't really know which one's the right one...)

anyway, good to be working with you smiley - ok

far.

aiee, i just realised that i can't make corrections to the new article, and that it would be futile to make them to the old one. maybe you could edit footnote 3 so that it reads:

'The word was supposed to have been a derivative of Janker, a diminutive of Jan; or Jankees, which was a combination of Jan and Kees (cheese); however, when the author attempted to translate these Dutch words using Intertran, the closest approximation available for Janker was 'to yelp or whimper'. The website 'yourdictionary.com' also mentions that the word 'Yankee' is Dutch for 'John'.'

or something. thanks.
