It's a great idea, as long as we don't overcook!
We need a common cultural identity, but that's no reason people should have to give up their roots and history.

*sips *
I've had the discussion with people from other countries where I get "well the americans are all just americans"...that doesn't help. These were friendly discussions, not the political threads.
*sips more *
How are you tonight?

As noted elsewhere, I no longer get involved in the political threads. Not worth the heartburn!
I'm doing ok. Went back to w**k today, back to the tomorrow
How about you? Anything new and noteworthy???

Evangeline Posted Nov 10, 2003
How likely is another shot or surgery?
New or noteworthy...um, aside from the panic over Christmas... nope. Mike found out Brian Wilson is planning on touring England next year, and suddenly he *wants* to go there. As opposed to "sure if that's where you *want* to go...I'll go too.

Another shot, very likely. Surgery...dunno. Sure hope not!
Well, whatever it takes to get Mike enthused about the whole scene!
I've been trying to get ready for the PA trip Thursday. Haven't been making tons of progress, but have at least managed to get a list going of what I need to pack. The Dallas/Ft. Worth to Philly leg of the journey will be 3 hrs +, the longest I've spent on a plane. Wish me and an uncrowded flight!

I've bought a guide book for England(two months ago). Read through it a couple of times, and one thing has become very apparent. I really have to read more English history or those museums and historic sites aren't going to mean as much as they should.

rangerjustice (formerly warrior ranger) Posted Nov 10, 2003
That's probably a real valid point. The history of the area would lose a lot if you don't have any point of reference to understand it!
Just in travelling to CA and PA, I've found that my understanding of geography is SADLY lacking, not to mention not knowing a thing about the areas. Going to England, you can probably take that floundering feeling and multiply by 10X!
I'm jealous of the trip...I really want to make it over there someday!

I tried a World History class while I was in school. My grades were great. We just didn't get very far(class full of disinterested slow readers)...somewhere around the ancient Greeks and Spartans the year ended.
Well, we don't have tickets yet...but one site quoted Dallas to Heathrow $600.00 round trip. That is a bit less expensive than we were expecting. We are considering June or July.

rangerjustice (formerly warrior ranger) Posted Nov 10, 2003
That's not a bad price at all! My tickets to PA ran ~$620!!! Of course, that was less than 2 weeks in advance, and my sis' company is paying, not us. Thank goodness!
If I can do London that cheap, will have to look into it sometime...

Maybe there isn't as much demand for trans Atlantic flights these days. Or it's a really cheap airline. I would like to make it there for one of the official h2g2 meets. There are several people I'd like to meet and a few I must meet.

Yeah, Silversmoke, push Wales over Britain!
*whispers to Evangeline: he's a rabid Welshman...don't pay him too much attention! *
Guess it doesn't matter if the airline's cheap, as long as the plane behaves properly...

Evangeline Posted Nov 10, 2003
Sorry Silversmoke, that was a simul post.
I would appreciate any information about Wales. Haven't decided how much of the UK to try to see in one go. London(briefly) and Liverpool(sorry, but we are both fans of the Beatles). Then Yorkshire and Scotland for sure(there are people who would never forgive us if we didn't). We have about two weeks alloted for the trip...should we plan a longer trip? That price was from a website. We were expecting at least $1000.00.
Gosh I hope the plane behaves.

rangerjustice (formerly warrior ranger) Posted Nov 10, 2003
$94? Was it a prop job, or rubber band driven?
Not to worry, Evangeline. Despite the media coverage, planes rarely misbehave!

at that price i sent my wife and mother in law for 2weeksno try to shop around, my sister in law says that you dont really have travel agents or air ticket shops in the states?2weeks should be fine 12 days in gods land 1 day back and forth to airport. you would need 10 days in cardiff alone.. i find if you dont sleep the day b4 flying you eventually drop off and will sleep through, its only about8-9hours,

Evangeline Posted Nov 10, 2003
Nine hour flight with a six hour time difference. I only sleep six hours most nights. And, Mike can't sleep in anything moving...I can.
