I saw the the Kurt Vonnegut foundation was providing free copies to all the students of that district who wanted it. But the very idea is appalling. smiley - wah

It also does not do much good for the Midwest's rep as being troglydes either.

Slaughterhouse Five banned!

Hypatia

We are making plans here at the library for our annual Banned Books Week activities. One thing we do each year is take a banned book that we have on audio and play it in the backgound in the reading room. We've never done Slaughterhouse Five. Looks like a good choice this year.

This sort of thing generally backfires. It will just make everyone who hasn't read the book want to to find out what all the commotion is about. That's what happened here when our school district pulled three of the Alice books by Alice Reynolds Naylor. The demand for them shot up. But even though it was the school district, not us, who banned it, it was extremely embarrassing for us when it happened.

As to being troglodytes, I'm afraid many of the people in this region would have to plead guilty.
