Test on Journal Entry

Post 1

If I remove this entry immediately after publishing does it appear in any conversation lists ?

The entry is removed from your conversation list.
This seems to be the nearest you can get to a private conversation list. Test by asking Doc:SEF and Pinniped if they can find this entry.

The reply subscribes you to the entry again.
To keep it off your conversation list and in the backgrond, you muat remove it from your journal again.
A bit protracted but I think it will Work.
Doc asked about this somewhere.
Find that question-reply to it and ask him to reply to this hidden message.

No need-this entry is on his space.
It is also on Pinniped's
Doc and Pinniped are subscribed to my space.
It's not on SEF's because she isn't
Your journal entry is like a specific conversation, entries only go to those who are subsribed to it. Well I never that should have been obvious really.
Post to your journal for relative quiet. Post to a lively conversation to create havoc.

Yep. That would seem about right.
Love the SP.
See you're back to your old mod-inducing habits again, too.
(Serves you right for arguing with prepubescents)
Pinsmiley - ok

The question is, if all those who are subscribed to your space unsuscribe from this conversation, does it vanish irretrievably from h2g2 completely. Surely it would need to remain listed somewhere?

Good question Doc. I've thought about that myself
I/the originator can always find it because as you have said somewhere else I can't unsubscribe from my own journal.
Once a subject has got away, it's in the open. A bit like poison pen letters.
I guess only the 'big lads' can clean up the site or a true hacker

Pinniped - The Mods ruled in my favour the posts are back again. - The 'STUPID BOY' got egg on his face.
I paricularly enjoyed writing F94020?thread=284509&skip=140&show=#p3667569
Thinking of putting it to Peer Review.smiley - biggrin

But I should always be able to find it on your space, even if I unsubscribe. It should be in your conversations, even if you delete the entry from your journal, right?

Yes the last one:

F95897?thread=200994&post=2261722#p2261722

was a journal entry. I deleted it, but it remained as a conversation

And that was in the days before you could “Add A Friend”.

Glad you checked Doc. I wondered about that myself. Was that this current thread 'Test on Journal Entry' you are talking about.
You do realise that you are answering your own question (post 6)
I reckon this as near to a private thread as you can get. Of course if other lurkers find it and post to it away it goes. We can delete/remove it from our space but it will remain on theirs.
I believe I have one that at the moment only I and an anonymous researcher (who's unsubscribed from it) can make entries to and provided that I 'remove' it as soon as I have made an entry it's mine to record whatever I want.
If you think you know what it is please don't post to it smiley - smiley. Come back to me on my PS under the subject heading 'Gotit' and tell me the post number on that thread that I claim it is safe. smiley - biggrin
You can post to it if you wish but promise me that you will unsubscribe from it as soon as you have posted.
Happy hunting - Ancient Brit

Right then, AB

... is a list of all the conversations to which you are subscribed (providing you're not subscribed to >25000). The one to which you refer could be any of them ... and anyone could post to any of them. There's no exclusivity or privacy. As indeed the lurking puzzle solver above has demonstrated.

Doc
It's a doddle to find this thread. It's alive and kicking.
The thread I refer to in post 10 is another matter. smiley - ok
I can tell you that I have made at least 2 additions to it in the last 24 hours. I shall give no further clues.

Hi Puzzler - You should have excused yourself there were only three of us on board.
There are now four locations for this thread that I know of.

Do you know why the links on the 'Lest we Forget' dropdown box on my space will not work ?

Anything to do with your subscriptions to Yella Belly's journal?

Researcher U232192 has made three journal entries. You are subscribed to his/her space. Quite possibly, you're the only one. As such you are automatically subscribed to his/her coversations.

You can tell who is subscribed to your friends page by putting some ML in your code.

Hold on.

At the end of yopur coding, put this little baby ... between the close BODY tag and the close GUIDE tag.

i.e.,

Anyone who has added you to their friend list will now be listed on your page. This will enable you to know who is subscribed to your journal postings.

Trout.
