I remember that cover well, and loving it. It predated the hit parade business by a few years actually, as a b-side to "Corduroy" from the excellent Seamonsters.

One of them was in my sister's sociology tutorial group.
*And* she once dated HMHB's drummer via a personal ad.

Rmiss of me to forget - I spent my first year at Uni with the guitarist out of this lot http://www.organart.demon.co.uk/bioangelcage.htm second right at the back. She got a first in Cognitive Science, I had a breakdown and learned to DJ.

Tonight's News Quiz is going to be sad; just heard Alan Coren's died.

>>the visceral gnashing of PJ Harvey
Mind you...the ide of her gnawing at one's viscera could be apealing to some.

Sounds like I can skip giving them a listen.
Who was the Coren gentleman? (I could Google, but it's often more interesting to hear a first-hand account)
Don't know as that this especially fits just now, but we watched a good flick last night that I'd never seen before- Criterion released it here- called "Coup de Torchon" (USAnian/Criterion title: "Clean Slate"). Two thumbs up, if y'all are looking for something else worth renting (or I guess your libraries loan DVDs out as well?).
Thought of another "Q" film- a remake of Kurusawa's "Rashomon". "Quante Volte Quella Noche" (aka "Four Times That Night"). I rather liked it.

Basically, a political satirist.
He was mainly seen (rather, heard) in public on Radio 4's 'News Quiz' where he'd adopted an irascible buffer character.
I really don't like Sandi Toksvig, I have to say.

Will investigate
I can't do Coren justice. I know him best from the News Quiz (which you absolutely should check out). But he had been an editor of classic satirical magazine Punch, did a regular column in the Times, and used to be a panellist on Call My Bluff, opposite Sandi Toksvig (now hosting NQ). They had a great chemistry.
It looks like I might receive Deborah Kerr's medical notes next year. She lived (somewhere) in North Suffolk. It would top the list of notable files on our shelves - along with John Peel and Alan Stratford-Johns (Inspector Barlow from Z Cars, apparently)

Ah- thanks! I can't access the link from here, and didn't want to wait till I got home to find out.
Sandi Toksvig?

Simpost. Thanks for the clarification, both of you.
I've never had access to any famous person's medical records. Although in my day-to-day work, I often have to process paperwork to transfer a home title from a decedent's name to that of his/her next of kin, or the executor of the estate, and I have to admit to an overwhelming morbid curiousity- I *always* have to flip through and read the death certificates.

I'd be in a world of Data Protection Act-related trouble if I looked *in* them, but I can look *at* them... I guess it's safe to say that if I tell you my place of employ has custody of the medical records of every departed Suffolk resident for the last 15 years or so, it's reasonable to assume relevant famous ones will be there. Except those of the poor girls from last year; they're in other custody.

Without giving up too much information myself, I can safely say that it's unlikely that anyone famous (and therefore most certainly a bit well-off) would be unable to afford a home that isn't one of ours. Let's just say that the average selling price of one of our homes is approximately half the average 15-20% down payment on a home in my neighborhood.
Your mention of those poor girls from last year (and I might not have all my facts straight- it wasn't covered much here) reminds of me of something I read this morning that's probably fodder for another separate conversation... I'd hate to drag down the tone and make things all serious.
This thread has been fun, though. I got to dredge through my database and learn about people I'd never heard of previously.

It's probably also the longest journal thread I've had so far... plus you get Friday afternoon crap like this hip-hoppin' cockatoo (warning: contains Backstreet Boys).

Well, I've never seen a famous person's medical records either. But at least I'm on cheek-pecking terms with someone who's name is Glasgow rhyming slang for 'fanny'.

Och, I've told you that one.
Anyway...Weegie rhyming slang is incomprehensible unless you're familiar with the dialect as a whole.
Corned beef - Deaf
Hank Marvin - Hungry
Salvador Dali - a drink
Mick Jagger - Lager
