Anyone who would tell their partner what to eat, or even expect them to eat something particular, has got screws loose
Everybody here is nice, and that's a good thing
I'm off to work now......
Gotta make sure the mail gets to the people, you know

I find it quite ridiculous when people try to control their partners in that way. Control freaks do not make for very good life partners, I suppose...
Speaking of control freaks, one of my friends is being literally besieged by this guy (with whom, incidentally, she is not romantically involved; although he'd really like to be) who calls her at home and then shouts abuse on the answerphone if she isn't in.
Psycho. I said, drop him. Block his mails, don't answer his calls.
"But he is a friend" she whines.
My question is, would she take that kind of behaviour from a female friend? Like hell she would...

I find myself surrounded by control freaks, people who use guilt trips to get what they want from me. Problem with that is, I'm a people-pleaser by nature, and find myself feeling manipulated and then angry afterward, because I'm also intelligent enough to know better. Sometimes I wonder why I attract these sorts of people into my life, I'm not some helpless git after all.
Do you think people try to control someone else because they *know* that person is more intelligent than they are, and it makes them feel better about themselves if they can manipulate and belittle them?

Hi Psychocandy, These people who try to take over your life are probably doing so because they have made such a mess of their own! If you stand up to them in a public place the chances are that they will either leave with embarrasment, or try harder to wind you up. They are what I call "Emotional Bullies" they are sad people really, and as you say you are above that anyway
Smudger.

psychocandy, you sound so much like me sometimes
I have no idea why people do that to other people. What I do know is, I've just lost a person I loved dearly because I stood up to him for the first time in our friendship. He vanished without even trying to argue with me. He's gone for good this time. First time I ever gave up on trying to please him and win his favour.
I once told him, "you're a control freak" and he denied it. A while ago he admitted I was right.
He's gone now. Sometimes I miss him, but for the most part I think it's better than way.

My fiancee, and most of the other Chinese I meet, cannot understand that I can actually live AND BE HEALTHY, not eating meat, fish, egg, or the current wonder food here, milk, ( most Chinese women now apparently HAVE to have caesarians when they give birth, due to TOO BIG BABIES).

GRETA, THERE'S NO SEXUAL SATISFACTION TO BE HAD WITH A PEN.
Oh I don't know tho'!

Hello there beanfoto Long time no hoot!
I know what you mean about no sexual satisfaction from a pen (or keyboard in my case, I don't hand-write), but at this time in my life I'm not terribly interested in men in general. I'm more interested in myself, to be completely honest. I've just had a fantastic idea for a new novel and I'm about to suspend the one I'm working on just to start working on the new one! Fickle me! It's so exciting, though.
I don't care about unemotional sex, which is all I could have right now. I'd really rather have emotional writing. Love and sex will find me one day I suppose, but right now I'm enjoying my own company.

'kaaaaay... how do you tell somebody you
a) don't fancy them very much
b) don't really feel like seeing them oor anybody else at the moment
c) generally can't be a*sed?
Why's it that the ones who ask you for your telephone numbers never call you if you fancy them, and always call you if you don't? I was counting on this one forgetting all about it. As if!

I think that called Murphy's law
Trains collide on regular basis
stars explode and fireworks don't
a sea ruins dry and a moon leave its orbit
and we're this one thinking it won't
the true our vision of order
was cloud-free up until
a certain Mr Murphey done us the dirty
served us up a bitter pil
again and again the laws of nature prove laws
aren't enough
and then the voice of resoan flies off the deepend
that's why people fall in love
cd info:
Thomas Dolby - austronauts & heretics
song: 'that's why people fall in love'

Give me that Murphy and I'll give him what for!!!
This just isn't fair. I was counting on a certain gorgeous someone to ring me, and guess what, he didn't. (Hey, that was before I swore off boys.) Now this. It really makes me nervous. This town isn't big enough for me to be able to extricate myself gracefully in a reasonable amount of time.

I guess sometimes it just depends on the individual & how strong of an impression you've made on them.
Sometimes you just have to tell people, as politely but firmly as possible, to essentially 'back off, I just need some space...I'll get back to you when that changes'...y'know the "don't call us, we'll call you" thing. (And it kinda goes without saying, that just if/when you do call is up to you .)
At least that seems to work for me.

This guy really fancies me, has done for a while now, and I guess I must've led him on by being too nice on the dancefloor last Saturday (it probably helped that I was a bit squiffy). I'm a bit of a flirt, but I don't mean to hurt anybody, and I don't play with people's feelings. I really hope I won't hurt him (hopefully not).
Funny how the only one who turned me down was the shy one who is always stealing glances (I bumped into him today and he was really embarrassed. I wasn't... no hard feelings!) Food for thought.
Hm, no settling for less, it's either the Really Good One or nothing. I really enjoy being my own partner!

I somehow assumed not...just a touch of the Realist in a few of your comments...either that or I'm getting more perceptive than I've realized (scary though in a way.)
